Whatever it is, it's iconic. The AMEX, much better ground and not in a state of age. Goodison Park, much better atmosphere and famous old ground.
And you can't see f*** all.

Christ on a bike. This is pathetic from Everton. Another one gone down in agony after being brushed on the cheek by MacAlisters glove.
He's just outed himself as the weediest nob end in the EPL. He'd need an ambulance if a little old lady was to land one on him.

Just back from Bob’s, H?
Yep.

He was disappointed, but could appreciate the symmetry of an equal number of red and blue wins at Goodison.
When he was a lad in the 50s, and going away with the reds was financially impossible, he would go along to Goodison to watch Everton.
Simpler times.

Hope all is reasonable in your world, young man

First part was being ironic as evrytime one of the commentators opened their mouth they said it. Secondly the ground was a dump in the 80's nothing has changed. IT'S A DUMP
It’s a proper ground and they’re moving to a soulless bowl. It’ll be more comfortable with more leg room, better sight lines, wider concourses and in an area that doesn’t immediately make you want to call social services. But it won’t be their home.

I appreciate everything TB has done for our club but I’d give a kidney to do one more Saturday 3pm at the Goldstone.

'The ref didn't have control of the game' is basically an excuse for players running amok and not taking responsibility for their actions.

Fun to watch, but any analysis only blames them.
I recently saw Michael Oliver referee the Salzburg game against PSG - he was excellent. Put him back in the EPL and he has no idea what is, or is not, a free kick, or when the game is over. What is it about the EPL that makes referees rubbish?

Frankly, if a Palace player ran over to celebrate in front of us, as Doucoure did tonight, I'd like to see one of our players chase him down as Jones did.

100%

But I’d also like to see Velts or Dunk do the reverse if we won / drew with a late goal.

Tremendous handbags tonight.

Really, it was a run down dump. We can all go glazed eyes at memories but come on. If the Goldstone was updated, furry muff, but it wasn't ever going to be.

One moment fans moan about pricing etc next they hanker for shit facilities, poor views, no leg room, shit concourses. Blimey the food kiosk opposite the men's bogs in the north stand for example.

Thankfully we've moved on.

Christ.

I thought you had to be proper old like me to reach for the opium of nostalgia.

The Goldstone was a shit hole, and you needed a tetanus jab if foolish enough to enter the gents.

The view was shit (apart from up on the East).

We could knock out the North at the Amex and build a massive new North Stand....
But we don't have the demand.
Or maybe we do but the owner doesn't have the money.
Maybe if we invited someone like son-of-Archer onto the board, he could fix this?

Or maybe Bloom does have the cash but is just tight, like Dick Tight was tight.
Boo! BOO!. Boo.
Boo.

Come on, enjoy what we have!
FFS.

The Goldstone was a football ground.

The Amex is an entertainment venue.

I appreciate the difference both ways.

I'm not sure it does. It's just the level of scrutiny which is often viewed through a prism of subjectivity. Looking at all the decisions made tonight, there was arguments for an against. But outright incorrect decisions, I don't think there was one. Add to that the loaded views of those in attendance and elsewhere and you have a rubbish referee. But he isn't. That's why he has refereed deep in UEFA tournaments. He's made some mistakes, the Arsenal sending off being one recently, but not sure that any mistakes he made constitutes death threats. But he's had them.

Yeah, that's a good way of putting it. I'd rank that with your 'cricket for people who don't like cricket' quip. Which I have often unashamedly breached any copyright on. I can't be bothered to credit you anymore.

Goldstone - football GROUND.

Amex - football STADIUM.

Not many GROUNDS left. Not in the top leagues anyway.

Good.
I will continue to enjoy being entertained at said latter venue.
My crumbling skeleton means that may not be for all that long.
It was what it was.

If the Everton free kick for their first goal was ok, then Liverpool should have had one before the Everton second goal. Inconsistent.

Interesting one as I suppose the criteria would vary. Does a ground have to have terraces ?

I'd call the following:

Crystal Palace and Fulham as grounds. Maybe Ipswich Town too. Everton, for me was the ground of grounds.

One of the criteria may well be that it's a shithole. I suppose you can't have it both ways.

Distinct separate stands, rather than a complete bowl is a big factor, for me.

Perhaps, the point being that you can mount opposing arguments with ease. No referee will ever be truly consistent as there is no complete measure. Not least that all incidents are viewed from different angles.

A ref will always be trapped by technology as he only has one pair of eyes. Then you add the speed of the game. It's a thankless task. This is why I just accept decisions in the way I do. Top refs can't really improve much, simply because it's not possible.

If Collina had been a weekly EPL ref, without such a distinctive appearance, he would have been getting pelters like everyone else
