West is BEST
Bands like Pearl Jam and Pixies tend to play those awful Hyde Park gigs these days. Which I refuse to go to. Terrible way to see a band.

Buzzcocks supported by Joy Division.
Didn’t realise it was Joy Division until years later, but what I do remember from that gig was how loud the sound was from Joy Division, and the amount of times Pete Shelley stopped the gig due to the amount of gob being flung at him.

In a pile of football shirts
Also a family outing at that time, we saw Boney M at the Brighton Centre, they were amazing. Even got this sullen teen moving  .
An acquaintance of mine used to do some production and engineering for Boney M, and also played keyboards on some of the recordings. He is, however, most well known for being the sound engineer and part producer for a lot of the output of Bathory.

A lot of people at my school went to that gig. I didn’t as I didn’t think Queen were “cool” enough. What an idiot. I bet it was amazing ..?
I went with a group of school mates all from Newman
It was absolutely unbelievable and had to wait until 1986 Simple Minds at Milton Keynes bowl until anything came even close
Great one to lose your gig virginity
The Thompson Twins at the Brighton Centre. I was incredibly cool
would like to have seen that

FWIW I was there and found them a bit self indulgent, segued quite a few of their hits only playing snippets rather than the full songs. They seemed to prefer showcasing their undoubted musical ability in lesser known songs. Could just have been me though as I wasn’t a massive fan. Nowhere near as good as their Live Aid performance Imo

The Stranglers 1982 - Brighton Centre

(This isn’t that, but what the hell)

With the stripper on stage? If it was the same concert my younger brother‘s eyes popped out and he jumped over the balcony to get closer to the stage.

UB40 at the Brighton Centre in 1983. Very loud. A big fight broke out in the standing bit to the extent that Ali Campbell shouted to stop the song and got the miscreants thrown out. The two Middle Eastern guys sitting next to me were so stoned from smoking huge spliffs throughout that they had absolutely no idea what was going on at any stage. All very impressive to a 13 year old and UB40 were still good then, before it all went a bit Rat In Mi Kitchen soon afterwards
Think that was mine n all
Small Faces at the Downs Hotel, Hassocks, 1965 when they were almost top of the charts. A legendary venue for those who remember it/went there.
WOW ! Best yet.

2008 since this was last told on here..

1st live band/group was Big Audio Dynamite at Coasters approx 1984/5, but 1st proper concert was The Cure 'Head Tour' at Brighton Center in Sept 1985 - Both as a Fawcett boy.
After that saw Transvision Vamp twice at Top Rank with Brighton band 'Fuse' as support.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
A different time indeed, but twas 1985, with myself 10 and older brother 12 allowed to travel to London from Brighton on our own to watch Schooly D. Town and Country Club in Kentish Town. Daytime gig, with, I possibly misremember, support from the Wee Papa Girl Rappers. The start of myself and live hip hop for about a decade.

Assuming I am allowed to discount being dragged along by my parents to see The Spinners - not the Detroit ones but the Scouse folk group - my first proper gig was this

My second gig was a couple of months later seeing Iron Maiden on the World Slavery tour at the Southampton Gaumont. Not a bad start.
