Bands like Pearl Jam and Pixies tend to play those awful Hyde Park gigs these days. Which I refuse to go to. Terrible way to see a band.
The Prince Charming Revue?
Bloody hell. That's going to take some beating.
Cast for me sometime in 1996. Brighton lost at home to someone or other. Maybe Bristol rovers? At least Cast were a win.
I say you made the right call.A lot of people at my school went to that gig. I didn’t as I didn’t think Queen were “cool” enough. What an idiot. I bet it was amazing ..?
An acquaintance of mine used to do some production and engineering for Boney M, and also played keyboards on some of the recordings. He is, however, most well known for being the sound engineer and part producer for a lot of the output of Bathory. Also a family outing at that time, we saw Boney M at the Brighton Centre, they were amazing. Even got this sullen teen moving.
I went with a group of school mates all from NewmanA lot of people at my school went to that gig. I didn’t as I didn’t think Queen were “cool” enough. What an idiot. I bet it was amazing ..?
would like to have seen thatThe Thompson Twins at the Brighton Centre. I was incredibly cool![]()
FWIW I was there and found them a bit self indulgent, segued quite a few of their hits only playing snippets rather than the full songs. They seemed to prefer showcasing their undoubted musical ability in lesser known songs. Could just have been me though as I wasn’t a massive fan. Nowhere near as good as their Live Aid performance ImoA lot of people at my school went to that gig. I didn’t as I didn’t think Queen were “cool” enough. What an idiot. I bet it was amazing ..?
The Stranglers 1982 - Brighton Centre
(This isn’t that, but what the hell)
Think that was mine n allUB40 at the Brighton Centre in 1983. Very loud. A big fight broke out in the standing bit to the extent that Ali Campbell shouted to stop the song and got the miscreants thrown out. The two Middle Eastern guys sitting next to me were so stoned from smoking huge spliffs throughout that they had absolutely no idea what was going on at any stage. All very impressive to a 13 year old and UB40 were still good then, before it all went a bit Rat In Mi Kitchen soon afterwards
WOW ! Best yet.Small Faces at the Downs Hotel, Hassocks, 1965 when they were almost top of the charts. A legendary venue for those who remember it/went there.
