The Brutalist has barely made £ 2 000 000 compated to the £ 24 000 000 for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 £ 24 000 000 here. Has anyone actually seen this film ?

Saw The Complete Unknown yesterday afternoon. I've never really liked Dylan's whiny voice, but I enjoyed the film and the connections with Johnny Cash, Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. Was pleased to spot a picture of Thomas Paine on Dylan's wall. The actress playing Joan Baez 😍.

Went to see Flight Risk today. My expectations were low … but it was shockingly bad. We walked out after 20 mins (I’d have left a lot earlier). First time I’ve ever walked out of a cinema part way through a movie.

It went downhill.

The premise could have been turned into a reasonable low budget thriller.

However everything about it is absolutely shit.

I feel quite lucky that we have the amazing Picturedrome in Bognor who only charge £4 entry.
And I've only just found that with my Three Mobile App that I can go to Cineworld Chichester on Fri/Sat/Sun for only £3.

In the last couple of weeks I saw Conclave, The Complete Unknown and September 5.
I thoroughly enjoyed each film and thought each of them worthy of some kind of award.

My favourite was September 5 which I found totally gripping and I felt it took me into their 1972 world with them.

Watched The Order on Prime tonight.

Drama/thriller

True story of an FBI investigation into a White Power cult in the 1980’s.

Jude Law is superb in it. Don’t let him put yiu off, he’s superb as a downbeat, grizzled detective.

The acting is great. Well paced.

Think Michael Mann meets the first series of True Detective.

My film of the year so far.

Just seen All of us Strangers, 2024 strictly. What a film about love and loss. Superb acting all round and an intelligent and thought proving film. One of the best films of the last 2 years. 91 out of 100

I saw Conclave the other day. Really enjoyed it. I've read the novel previously though, and therefore I can't help wondering if I might have viewed it differently if I hadn't already known the twist at the end. Fiennes and Tucci are great, either way.

Saw the Brutalist yesterday, thought it was very good and Adrien Brody brilliant, will give Sonic the Hedgehog 3 a miss.

Saw Nosferatu a couple of weeks ago - as said above, great cinematography, and very stylised, but ultimately I found it OTT.

Saw A Real Pain this weekend, but didn't really enjoy it because Kieran Culkin played virtually the same character as in Succession - manic, 'hyper', rude, over-sweary and inappropriately behaved. Those qualities made him brilliant in Succession, but were cringeworthy in a film about Jews visiting Poland to remember family members lost in the holocaust. I know that was the character he was commissioned to play in A Real Pain (clearly emotionally troubled), but for me, it still spoiled the film; I just wanted his character Benji to shut the f*** up for 5 minutes, and stop being such a manic, attention-seeking, prick.

I watched 'Kneecap' last night, after a good showing at the BAFTAS & I'm still working out if I enjoyed it or not?!
It's a great film about defending the right to talk your native language in your own country & the fight against people who try & say otherwise. However I did find it trying to be a bit too hard to be the next 'Trainspotting'. The acting is superb and definitely give it a watch if it's on your list, just not with the kids!

I saw Becoming Led Zeppelin a couple of weeks ago in an IMAX.
Fascinating if you are a fan, interviews with all of them including John Bonham! Explored the individual band members path to becoming the band and covered the music up to Led Zep II.
John Paul Jones story was the most surprising element, along with Bonham’s and Plant’s friendship.
Sound of course was amazing in the IMAX.

Watched Companion over the weekend.
If you haven't seen it, do not watch the trailer, go in blind as the trailer ruins what the film is about.
Really can't say much about the film without giving too much away so I'll just say that me and the Mrs really enjoyed it, solid 8/10.

Just had a rare two trips to the cinema last week while on holiday in France:

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy - not bad at all. I found it quite deep and emotional at times! 6.9/10

Out of Control - French thriller. Good cast - Omar Sy, Elodie Bouchez, Vanessa Paradis, affairs, stalking. Liked it: 7.3/10

Watched The Gorge at the weekend. Suprisingly good. An action film where you actually care about the characters.
2 operatives are either side of the gorge which houses some nasty creatures in its depths which they need to keep from coming out.
First half shows how they start to connect while second half has some decent action scenes. Good escapist fun

Apologies if this sb on the 2024 thread but saw Emilia Perez yesterday....

What a superb film, worthy of all the Oscar plaudits...

Lots of haters on IMDB but shirley a film about a trans mob boss filmed as a musical shouldn't surprise unless you go in blind
