SCENES! Billion pound team comfortably beats Belgian side at home to scrape into play-offs.

I’m totally bought into the new Champions League format. Tonight was brilliant! Much better than the last group games of the old format.
I think what's happened for me is kind of what I expected. I took no interest in the first few matches, especially as it was clear that nothing was at all defining. But tonight was great fun, as it always was going to be. I do rather like the absence of much of the draw now. They were such tiresome ceremonies. Each team knows what it has to do and we can see ahead. I've gone from the 'meh' I expected to being quite engaged now.

Inter conceded just one goal in 8 games. Four 1-0 wins. Don't think anyone will want to play against them.
You’re right, they will be a really tough opponent. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they won the whole thing.

During the City game tonight, the commentators were saying no one would want to face City going forward in the competition. I don’t think that’s right though - I would fancy most of the top European teams to wipe the floor with them. Even tonight they were so open against Brugge, if CB had better players, they would have scored a hatful.

We'll see about City, I think they are out of their worst and will improve second half of the season. Can also register new signings, Marmoush looked good on his debut and could bring a new dimension to their attack. They are still trying to sign Douglas Luiz and FB Cambiasso from Juve. Can only register three players so one if not both new CBs will stay out though.

Good for you.

I Mean that sincerely.

I haven't got a f***ing clue what's going on, and really do not give a flying f***.

I did enjoy watching posh footy on ITV in the 90's as a supplement to division 4 ( or L3) and basic survival , in the flesh though.

Absolutely. I loved tonight's coverage.

Since it's called the Champions League, an actual league format of all teams rather than just groups is more authentic.

Plenty of uncertainty left with many bigger sides missing out on automatic qualification to the likes of Lille and Villa.

All the games going on at the same time is quite something. In NFL Redzone, there's the Octobox showing up to 8 games happening at once.

They'd need to more than double that for the UCL. And I'd need a bigger television.

It’s the European Super League by stealth. It can f*** OFF.
Next season 5 teams from EPL, in another couple up to 6, etc.
Then those teams will drop out the League cup.
Then one of these group games will be in the US and another in Dubai.
Then EPL will get panicked and schedule matches for 11pm on a Saturday/Sunday to keep the Yankee dollar.
Then these parasite clubs with plastic fans will demand that they need 30 player squads, so they will cherry pick even more from the ‘likes of Brighton’.
Our great game has been bought by the highest bidder and turned into corporate brands.
f*** OFF.

The new format seems to have gone down well on here. Not for me just an excuse for more teams and games. I knew it was going over to a league format so assumes top 16 would go through But no now have Brugge, Sporting and City with only 11 points in 22nd 23rd and 24th place given another chance. Farce but more money for all.
The super league will come in some form because wont be time for these clubs to play domestic games. Maybe clubs in Europe will get direct entry to last 16 of domestic cups
