Numbers aren't everything of course- Lewis Hall and Milos Kerkez have had great seasons but neither feature in that list above.

Wonder what this means for the Valentin Barco, who might have been expected to be next in line at LB.

Will Diouf come straight into the squad or be loaned straight back out a la Osman, Undav...

this time last year our very own Barco was top of that list and hear we are seemingly trying to buy another one because the first didn't work out.
The way we operate, not all of them will work out. Some of them are very young and may take time to adapt- Mac Allister took a good two and a half seasons, for example. Bissouma probably a year or so. You're talking about 18, 19 year olds who are uprooted from their homes and families and moving thousands of miles, in some cases having to live on their own for the first time, in countries where they don't speak the language and have to learn to do all the everyday little things that the rest of us just crack on with like shopping and passing their driving tests and paying for parking (or not, in Bissouma's case ). For those of you with 18 year old children: how do you think they'd function if you sent them off to Paraguay or Argentina and told them to rent a house, find a job and get on with it? Sometimes I think our expectations of these lads are insane. Caicedo was the exception to the rule in that the moment he got into the team, he hit the ground running, but you can't expect all players to do that.

Barco has not failed: he's just had a tougher time at Sevilla than might have been expected. He may come back and be great: he may not. Even if we end up selling him for £15 million to somebody (a low fee by our recent standards): does that make him a failure? I don't think so. He'll still be a very good professional footballer somewhere.

Possibly the most glorious thing about this deal, if it materialises, is that Palace seem to have been pursuing him all month and have a 42-page thread on that pursuit.

I suspect page 43 will contain many posts along the lines of "He's shit - didn't want him anyway".

I've just seen a post on Holmesdale online which reads (verbatim):

"I doubt Dougie and Co. would up the anti solely because the Tesco bag wearing shisters from Bumton are rumoured to be interested".

Imagine being a grown adult writing something like that in 2025? I'm assuming it is somebody of reasonable age because, let's face it, few people under 25 would get the Tesco bag reference. Bumton? Seriously? Incredible (also "anti", "shisters")

:ROFLMAO: That took me on a trip down memory lane. I closed my eyes and there I was back in 2005. The only thought in sobriety being that perhaps things are headed back that way.

Imagine how confused an 18 year old would be by the Tesco bag reference?

Though an 18 year old probably wouldn't use the term "Bumton" either.

He missed out that he’d have to play at the Gaymex.
