Reckon there are a lot of golfers on this forum.

Rick Shiels signed (sold out) to LIV golf. Despite best part of 3 million subscribers, at best, a Cat1 3 handicapper. Much prefer Peter Finch content and from the Golf Life Legend boys (Jimmy Bullard and Tubes). Love the content from Dan Grieve who has saved my short game

Shame about Rick as I don't feel LIV are in it to improve the golf world.

I find Club Champion compelling (even if I don't really know why), and enjoy the Average Golfer's off the beaten track episodes.

A couple of lads I played with as juniors growing up in Devon have a decent channel. DHG - Dan hendriksen is the lead but his brother often plays. Dan is based at the club where my mum is still a member where I played as a kid, Churston. Some of their vlogs are good. His best mate Lester Barnes is regularly on and has his own channel. Paul (Dan’s brother) has won the PGA championships (the one club pros have) so they are actually decent at golf.

The standard of golf on their Ryder cup episodes from Churston a few years ago was crazy good.

Not you tube but I had a lesson today. I was buzzing about this drive. I am mid forties and had to quit hockey and cricket due to a bad back but managed to give it a decent whack in my lesson. Probably won’t be able to move tomorrow.

A lot of contradictory stuff to get tied in knots. Over the years generally stuck to watching free material by Rotaryswing where there has been enough to put together a swing with a consistent approach.

Golf Sidekick is excellent for amateur golfers.

And, as the OP mentioned, Dan Grieves is THE guy to watch for short game.

Personally, I love some YouTube golf but take the majority of it with a pinch of salt, particularly the improvement stuff, as none of it is attuned to the needs of specific golfers.

Yeah lessons online are probably better for short game for trial and error. I am off 8 and the tweaks the pro made to my long game I would never get from YouTube. Tiny alternations in set up and takeaway. Much better to spend 40 quid on that than 5 trips to the range to keep being hitting it the same.

I’m at the same level as you. Relatively speaking, the changes needed to improve are so small that it needs a professional to judge how good you are and recommend changes.

Saying that, I’m not sure there’s any level of golfer that really benefits from YouTube long game golf advice - some may get lucky and fall on a piece of advice that helps massively with their swing, but 99.99% of people won’t. Everyone’s swings are too different and most people can’t diagnose their swing faults to know what advice to look for.

The key areas where YT golf can help are strategy and short game, but you still need to practice both, and professional advice is still better as it’s tailored to specific needs.

Some of the vlogs are great for strategy. On Dan’s channel they explain the shots and what they are thinking which is great. So many people just think “it is 160 yards so it is a 7 iron”

Absolutely. One of the best strategies I’ve learned is to play the yardage for the back to the green, assuming there’s no major trouble behind. Simple strategy changes can have a huge difference to scores.
