West is BEST
I have a fairly basic Sony CD player and separate speakers with some studio monitor speakers also wired in.

Listen to CD’s often .

So much better than from a phone.

Yes, but the rubber surrounds of my old speakers have perished, so I need to buy new ones. Any recommendations? Probably looking at spending up to £200. I see that Wharfedale Diamonds (which must qualify as Old Skool) are still available. Are they still considered to be pretty good? Or pre-owned Bose bookshelf speakers??
Look out some B&W's if you can. Local company, astonishing quality

After several years I have bought a new pair of speakers and set up my old CD/Amp.
My goodness, what a difference. Music actually sounds like music again. I still have a decent Bose speaker that can do all the internetty stuff but I might get rid and buy a streamer separate.
Having sold all my vinyl a few years ago I don't think I'll be going back *that* far though.
Anyone else gone a bit retro ?
Lots of Linn, with B&W speakers.
All British, all lovely 🪄

Probably my age but I still have original separates since the early 90's. I have upgraded my record deck to a Project player that set me back about £900 but the quality via my Yamaha amp is really worth it. Enjoy looking at the vinyl notes and reading the sleeves more now than I did when I was young. Currently have about 2000 vinyl LP's so plenty to get through.

I’ve got a marantz amp and Bower and Wilkins speakers.
Not top of the range but everything sounds amazing through them. Spotify. My phone. The TV.

Denon CD player, Mission speakers. Plus some in-ceiling speakers from Richer Sounds Maidstone in the extension (mainly used for radio).

I have a vinyl deck but it needs an upgrade and isn't presently plugged in. So the vinyls are in the shed.
Which reminds me I was going to do a vinyl LP and 12" inventory for the amusement of @Herr Tubthumper and the annoyance of some idiot
but haven't got around to it yet.

My iPod is connected to expensive Bose headphones.
The witch house, wave and trap sounds magical

How about pre-retro. I collect Bang & Olufsen Beolit 600 transistor radios made in 1964 - 1970. Considering they are 60 years or so old they knock the hollow DAB sound in a cocked - hat.

I bought a deck, amps and cd player about 8 years ago from richer sounds. I had a fantastic Grundig set up with Wharfedale speakers when I was a teenager. I don’t use it much and can’t explain why but it does sound bloody brilliant even with the odd scratch. I like the streaming music but playing a vinyl has that Japanese Tea ceremony aura to it.

I have a pair of Canton Chrono 509.2 DC speakers hooked up to a Denon AVR X2800H amp. I have my TV and PS5 running through it so movies and games sound great.
I miss having my Technics 1210's running through it but living in a flat DJing hardcore isn't appreciated by my neighbours for some bizarre reason.

Similar to me. I have a Denon AVR-S750H AV Receiver which my TV, games consoles, Google TV and an Audio Technica record player all go through. I upgraded my speakers last year with a pair of floor standing Klipsch 620F and a matching Klipsch centre channel speaker which I got as a used bargain from FB Marketplace. It's far from high-end but the sound is fantastic compared to the single Bose smart speaker I used to have.

Used to love WFH with my Arcam A85 and CD92 playing through some Tannoy Reveal studio monitors annoying the neighbours, then the wife started a degree at the OU and decided the spot where my desk lived would be ideal for her study.

My PC is now squeezed on a much smaller desk beside the bed and the only music I get chance to listen to is my CD collection archived as FLAC on the server through a Beresford Bushmaster II headphone amp/DAC and a pair of Grado SR125i open back headphones. The seperates are taking up space in the loft and I'm hoping they'll find a new home at some point.

I have a lovely vintage Thorens deck from the early seventies. Also a Rotel amp I bought from Sevenoaks HIFI in Preston Street Brighton in the early 80's. And my pride and joy are Spendor SP1 speakers which I made in the mid eighties. They are another local make but a less well known brand which like many British manufacturers was spawned through BBC audio workers in the 60's. Spencer Hughes who founded the company made breakthrough discoveries using different surround materials for the drivers. I must confess though, I mostly just stream Spotify for convenience.

Upgraded my old Audiolab to the newer 7000A and a 7000CDT (amp/dac and cd transport) which pair with Kef LS50s. I now have integrated phonostage for my Thorens TD318. its also has bluetooth for spotify streaming etc

which is nice

Oh you little bugger! My wife says I’m awful for buying birthday presents for but that’s given me an idea for my 60th in November. she may be able to afford the needle on her NHS salary. It does look beautiful.

Cambridge amp connected to an old Linn Sondek LP12 turntable for vinyl plus a Rega pre amp, and Arcam rBlink for streaming.
Speakers are Roksan.
Also use an Echo Studio in the kitchen.

Quite a long story with my love of hifi separates, since it goes back to my teenage days and hasn't stopped since, so I'll try to keep it short.

I stream a lot nowadays, through a Yamaha network amp, and now via a recently added Wiim pro connected via coaxial, as I was fed up with no gapless support on the Yamaha.

I still have a turntable ( plus an exact copy in the loft, from when I used a mixer) a cd player, and even a tape deck (which I rarely use).

The one most constant has been my old Monitor Audio R952/MD floorstanders, which I bought 2nd hand about 30 odd years ago. I added an Elac sub to them a few years back, and I still really like the set up.

These days, I've gone down the DAP, Headphone and iem rabbit hole in a pretty serious way, but it hasn't put the hifi separates out of action at all. It's just replaced it for later night listening really.

Btw, I find it interesting to know how youngsters are listening to music these days, as the landscape has certainly changed a lot. I found this video ( it's American, but pretty much translates I think) very good on that subject....
