He got it as a result of their performance at the 2002 World Cup. Originally, it wasn't going to be granted but they all got an exemption after some discussions.

Not sure how reliable this source is but it states the following about Yang Min-Hyeok who has just joined Spurs. We may be able to come to a similar deal if we sign this lad.

Tottenham Hotspur said that in order to resolve Yang Min-hyeok's military service issue, they agreed to send him to international competitions where he can receive military service benefits, such as the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games . In addition , Gangwon FC U-18 team and five additional youth players recommended by CEO Kim Byung-ji will be invited to Hotspur Way for a week-long training camp in the winter, and Gangwon staff will also be invited to receive training at Tottenham. According to CEO Kim Byung-ji's live broadcast, the entire cost will be covered by Tottenham.

Interesting! Only thing I'd say is that Tottenham are already huge in Korea because of Son. I hope we could find something similar!

If he’s half as good as his grandad Willie then it’s a yes from me.
As a winger I would hope he also inherited some striking genes from Great Uncle Alan

There's competition..... Brighton lead the charge but "it's understood Yun's representatives were also at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground for discussions earlier this week".

Yeah, Spurs are no. 1 team in S. Korea.

Tottenham Hotspur’s following in South Korea is especially noteworthy, with 42.3% of fans in the country pledging their support to Spurs – largely due to the heroics of South Korean star Son Heung-min. South Koreans are more likely than any other nation to base their support on an individual player, with 58% of fans choosing a foreign team for this reason.

In Japan, the trend is similar, as 49% of fans choose their club due to a national team star player, notably Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma. Brighton has a relatively strong Japanese fanbase, with 4% of respondents choosing them as their preferred overseas team – more than Chelsea or Manchester City.

Donning my trivia hat, Double barrelled are given names in Korean and surnames come first.
Young Yun-Do would be correct if Naylor had the name right, and he doesn't apparently.
Yun Do-Young.

Oh, baby this guy embarrassed your centre back
He's a death trap, he's a real quick chap
We gotta enjoy how this boy runs
'Cause teams like us, baby, we need Yun Do Young
Baby, we need Yun Do Young

Looking to tap into the South Korea merch market for when we lose the Japanese one when Mitoma goes this summer?

I was in South Korea at Christmas and Son was EVERYWHERE. On shop fronts advertising coffee, huge billboards advertising banks, on tv screens in the windows of bars they’d be showing his best goals…he was advertising phones and I think a toothbrush too, just about anything and everything - he was far more prominent than I expected given the popularity of K-Pop etc. It would be fun if it was an Albion player instead in the next few years.

Oooh, I'd like a pre-season tour of Korea
Hopefully North! I’d like to be ‘detained’ by one of their HOT soldier chicks, maybe even two!
