Only issue is we'll have to sell him before he does his mandatory conscription.
Let's hope so. Son had to win the Asian games to get out of doing the 21 months and it was a close call.He can defer his conscription until he is 28.
Also being a pro footballer playing in the Premier League he’ll be considered an ambassador for South Korea so it’s likely he’ll be able to apply for an exception and will only have to do 1 months basic training. There will be other training obligations but these are only a few days a year.
If he plays for Korea internationally and they win the Asian games he’ll automatically get an exception and only have to do basic training.

Out of curiosity, do you know any footballers who received the exemption without winning the Asian games?
He got it as a result of their performance at the 2002 World Cup. Originally, it wasn't going to be granted but they all got an exemption after some discussions.I can’t remember Park Ji-Sung missing 21 months of football. He played pretty regularly for PSV and Man United which would have covered the mandatory age for conscription. Unless rules have changed since then. He didn’t win any gold medals either.
Google doesn’t help as their AI returns results for the military career of an actor called Ji Sung as that served by Park Ji-Sung
