After several years I have bought a new pair of speakers and set up my old CD/Amp.
My goodness, what a difference. Music actually sounds like music again. I still have a decent Bose speaker that can do all the internetty stuff but I might get rid and buy a streamer separate.
Having sold all my vinyl a few years ago I don't think I'll be going back *that* far though.
Anyone else gone a bit retro ?

I have a pair of Canton Chrono 509.2 DC speakers hooked up to a Denon AVR X2800H amp. I have my TV and PS5 running through it so movies and games sound great.
I miss having my Technics 1210's running through it but living in a flat DJing hardcore isn't appreciated by my neighbours for some bizarre reason.

Never stopped having hi-fi separates. I've tried other bits and bobs, but they simply are not the same.

Never stopped. The 1982 Technics deck went to its final resting place about 6 years ago, replaced by a Rega. The 1985 Akai cassette deck has malfunctioned, I’ve a TEAC in mind. Still have all my vinyls going back to 1975, in great condition. Threw away a ruined Unknown Pleasures once, luckily for some reason I had two of them.

My wife went on a speaker buying spree about a year ago and I have 2 pairs of Heybrook HB3s sitting behind me without a purpose now.
She also bought me a new Rega Planar 3 when I had no vinyl, having parted with a huge collection over 10 years ago. In 13 months, I have over 100 LPs again. I just love proper sounding music.

Rotel 850 pre- and poweramp/Linn Basik turntable/Canton speakers (forgot which one) unfortunately stuffed in the back of a wardrobe for 15 years or so. Maybe it’s time to give it a spin!

Bi-wired Mordaunt Short Mezzo 8's and Sony AV-amp. Some days I like to turn the volume up. Not overly expensive and great full range sound reproduction.

My love for physical format remains as strong as ever… vinyl and cd are king for me… decided to move away from vintage units when an old Hitachi turntable literally blew up in my front room… 🔥

I’ve invested in a Marantz amp and CD player, supplemented by a fine Audio-technica TT…

The most important part, my JBL studio monitors… now, they are vintage, but I’d never part with them… Catch the Rainbow 🌈 never sounded so fine….

I went into HMV the other week. I was astonished at the cost on new Vinyl (almost £30). And they weigh a ton - far heavier than when we were buying them back int he 70s and 80s.

I was also very surprised by the amount of DVDs they had for sale, I thought they had died out with streaming. The CDs were tucked away in a corner.....

Yes, but the rubber surrounds of my old speakers have perished, so I need to buy new ones. Any recommendations? Probably looking at spending up to £200. I see that Wharfedale Diamonds (which must qualify as Old Skool) are still available. Are they still considered to be pretty good? Or pre-owned Bose bookshelf speakers??

I've still got mine in the lounge. Separates but the tape deck no longer works, kept all my CD's & tapes. Also have a pair of Technics 1210's had also kept all my vinyl & occasionally add to it. But I use my Sonos or PC through my mixer mainly.

Jnr (17) has gone full on retro, he has a pair of cheap Stantons & keeps trying to get my Technics from me, it's met with a resounding no from me. He spends vast amounts of cash buying Oldskool hardcore & has a wantlist on Discogs about a mile long. He was given a load of '94 hardcore recently & it is currently thumping through my ceiling. It's not so bad now he can actually 'mix'. I've had to get hold of a second hand decent boom box as the new ones are quite frankly s**t, this is so that he can go through old rave tape packs & digitise them, as well as hunting through the loft & listening to tapes that some numpty didn't label or recorded over with something else. Not me as I would even write the songs & artist on mine.
He has a few from a dance music station in Brighton that were pirate to start with but then managed to get a 'proper' licence for a few months at a time. There was one with Carl Cox on it & he was giving shout outs to people. It appears from the recording that Carl Cox couldn't say his 'R's properly & someone had obviously noticed as he had to give a shout out to 'Roderick'. Blimey that was 30 years ago so recordings do last, if not put on speakers etc!! 😮

Love my 1970 B&O amp. Strangely bought my youngest a cd player for her birthday - so she can play fecking K-pop
That’s some collection! Mine was getting like that, sold loads … impressive stuff, and shelves !

I've got a 'vintage' pair of Whafedale Diamonds as they must be over 30 years old now & they are on my deck set up & are still great. I bought Jnr some new ones to go with his deck set up and they are great. His vinyl has a lot of deep bass & is running through an amp that has an 'extra' bass function. There's no distortion & he hasn't blown them yet. Might confiscate them if his music gets any louder though! :lolol:

Treated myself to a beautiful Cambridge Audio amp and Wharfedale speakers with my pair of Technics SL1200s to replace my Sonos set up during Covid and havent regretted it at all. Stream digital through ROON via laptop and the sound is incredible.

Recently bought an Audio-Technica rp, wharfedale diamond speakers, cambridge axa25 amp, denon cd player and a digital radio set up. Loving listening to my vinyl again after 30 years which have been sitting in the loft. Also enjoying adding to the collection.

I bought Wharfedale Diamond 9.0 (£79 from Richer Sounds) and am well pleased with them; sound is good and they're nice and small.

The first “decent” hi-fi system I bought was back in 1982. A Sansui stack system and a pair of Celestion Ditton 15XR bass reflex speakers. Sounded really good.
