Bath, Somerset.
Abba - 'Winner Takes It All' is one of the saddest songs ever. Visited the Abba Museum in Stockholm last summer!
Madonna - not a fan of much of her stuff, but 'Frozen' is pure beautiful melancholy.
Bucks Fizz - for the brilliant 'When We Were Young'.
The Glitter Band - for 'Goodbye My Love', and 'The Tears I Cried'.

This is a great chance to get this off my chest. My go- to genre is Indie, think Arctic Monkeys, Doves, Foals, Fontaine's DC. And then occasionally I'll play one of the first 9 Moody Blues albums, and enjoy it. There, I said it😩

Moody Blues could be accused of being mostly a bit “twee” but they have written some great melodies. I like them but in moderation

And with your user name and tag line too!!!

I am very disappointed to say the least.

Or . . . listen to what you want and enjoy it.

I like most of the bands mentioned…..

The Beatles - greatest band of all time, changed the face of music - brilliant

George Michael - amazing voice, coolness personified in my eyes.

Aha - great, Morten Harkett excellent

McFly - have matured into a good band…..

Guilty pleasure not sure but great band…..

The Mammas and Papas

Cass could sing, as could Michelle Phillips, good song writing as well….
Morten Harket is an incredible singer

Tickets just come up for the 75th interation of lynrd Skynyrd at the Brighton centre in July

having seen the original line up back in the 70’s i may pop along. Although £76 for standing tickets for a tribute band is a tad steep.

Their song “the sun always shines on TV”..

When I was a nipper the TV used to be almost unwatchable when the sun shone through the window, you’d just see a reflection of us all sat on the couch.

I genuinely believed this song was a lament to this annoying phenomena.
In Sweden????

Blimey, that's not a guilty pleasure, that's proper music, I absolutely love plainsong.

Now if someone said The Carpenters, or the Bay City Rollers, now that would be a guilty pleasure. *Ahem*
Karen Carpenter's voice, though. Goodbye To Love is a classic. And while we're talking about voices, Judith Durham of the Seekers ...

I am not guilty about openly listening to anything these days. I am happy to switch between Taylor Swift's lockdown albums and Joni. However in the punk and post punk era I kind of had two record collections. The one which you would see if you came to visit which was Velvets, Clash, Gang of Four and Black Uhuru heavy and the one which was more hidden which featured the likes of Gong, Focus, Caravan and Gabriel's Genesis all of which I still played all the time.

Oh indeed. Taking on board what some others have said, maybe I shouldn't really include the Carpenters as a 'guilty pleasure' just because they're style of music is probably classed as MOR. I'm not remotely cool and hip so I shouldn't be ashamed to admit to liking the Carpenters.

Not sure about the Bay City Rollers though ...

I don't necessarily like a band's entire back catalogue, but can appreciate some individual songs. By way of example:

  • ABBA - SOS
  • Girl's Aloud - Biology
  • Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Welcome to the Pleasuredome
  • Flowered Up - Weekender
  • Kiki Dee - I've Got the Music in Me

The list goes on.
