Yes, that works very well, I’ve almost 2.5k threads on ignore, I now only see stuff of interest which includes half a dozen politics threads. I also get to block spiteful threads by spiteful people the moment they appear.

That’s been the case since 2009. Anyone who’s invested in US equities has seen amazing returns. Whilst European/US equities by comparison have seen very modest growth. Nothing to do with Trump, it occurred under both parties. Driven by the Magnificent Seven and a nimble economy of hard working entrepreneurs/staff. Anyone who invested heavily in bonds or stocks other the US, has lost out badly.

Yes I know but how many other leaders of western countries have refused to rule out taking land from other democracies by force? It's still not exactly pretty reasonable to not rule out taking land by force is it?

I think you have to balance it out. Looking at media around Grump, Musk and US politics is going to bring you down and it’s true to say we really can’t influence it. You have to do other things or it’ll drive you mad.

That said, I am surprised at the number of people who seem to view this as being “Over there” and don’t seem to realise that the shit that he does in the next few years will affect us here. We’ll see a big rise in support for their likes in Farage and Reform etc. Trumps policies will end up costing us with tariffs etc because we’ll get them the first time we try to refuse something he wants - they have already been threatened.

I also think it’s a bit naïve to think he can’t do damage in the next 4 years, that simply cannot be reversed. Not all things can be fixed.

Climate change too. For those in the UK who plan to completely ignore the next 4 years, because it’s 3,000 miles away, you’ll be ignoring the effect on the planet your kids and grandkids will experience.

A psychological coping strategy, I understand.

It’s really hard. I’ve long said future generations will curse us, rightly so. The only comeback I’d say is they’d probably done/do no different. Humans are by design selfish, lazy and greedy and/or just trying to survive: neither of which are conducive to protecting our environment. If you were born today or are approaching adulthood now, probably best thing can do is not reproduce! But that ain’t never going to happen so we have to wait for what Mother Nature has in store alongside man made disasters such as war and economic turmoil to curb populations. Have a good evening yo’ll !

We have discussed this over on the Trump thread but I’ll paraphrase on here what I said on the other thread:

Climate change effects the globe, not just one Country - The Paris Agreement has failed on some levels but it is the only framework for change that exists - outside that framework, no Country is under any legal obligation to curb emmisions that contribute to global warming.

‘It’s all our concern what policies America enacts, not just on the environment and climate change but also on geo-political matters, international trade and on cooperation in collective security.

Anyone who doesn’t think American politics has global influence, impacting on all of us, maybe needs to step back and get a wider perspective of the nature of the world we live in.’
