I would give him a go in our team for a few matches. It would be great to see how he deals with it

You would imagine either Steele or Verbruggen are moving on.
We'd be mad to sell Verbruggen now unless we got an absolutely insane offer. Which I can't see happening. Might mean Steele is off on loan, although FH seems to like him. Or we're selling Rushworth.

I hope we're not pissing about with our first-choice GK half way through the season again, and I also don't think that being a back-up keeper will do Rushworth's development any good whatsoever. I think the best-case scenario is that we've had a decent offer for him.

We won't be arsing about with number 1s - that's Verbruggen.

There's not been a single whisper about a move for him, so he's going nowhere this window.

I guess Steele could move on, requiring a new number 2, but I'd also be surprised at that. I think he likes his role here and how the club helped his career recover from the Sunderland episode. That said, if he harbours desires to be a number 1 again - at Championship level maybe, I guess we'd do the decent thing by a good club servant and not stand in his way.

But, as others have said, Rushworth won't gain anything by sitting on the bench week in, week out. So maybe there is a decent offer for him, and we're happy to take it.

It will be interesting to see - I guess we won't have to wait too long to find out.

Steele injured, Rushworth filling in as second choice keeper https://www.brightonandhovealbion.c...er-news-carl-rushworth-hull-city-january-2025

Carl Rushworth has been recalled from his loan spell at Hull City.
The former England under-21 goalkeeper will return to the men’s first team squad, and is not expected to go back out on loan this month.
Technical director David Weir explained, “We have recalled Carl, with Jason Steele due to undergo surgery on a problem which will sideline him for a period.
“Alongside Killian Cahill, Carl will provide goalkeeping competition for Bart Verbruggen for the period ahead.”
Rushworth, 23, had a frustrating time with injuries at Hull, but is fully recovered and recently returned to first-team action in the Championship, playing the last two league matches.

If it's Steele, I also think he's a player of an age where he has family here and he's reasonably settled. My guess is he won't go further than London. But hey, I could be wrong and we'll find out soon enough!
