I would put it differently jc. UK politicians patronise us further by giving us some
bo***x evasive answer. I'd rather they lie to us direct than treat us like idiots.

Each to their own. I'd prefer they evade difficult questions than constantly lie. Trump is far far worse than any leader we've had. But that's off topic.

You also need to remember the UK and US media ecosystems are very different.

In the UK, our media will look for any attempt to trip up a politician and ruin them, meaning they're all incredibly careful about the answers they give because one wrong word at the wrong time can end up destroying their entire livelihood overnight. In the US, multiple media organisations essentially cheerlead for their "team" (especially, but not exclusively, for the Republicans). So if Trump gets caught lying Fox News will either tell us that actually he wasn't lying or that if he was then so what, and millions will go along with it.

Personally, while it has many flaws, I believe the UK media is much healthier than the US in this regard. But as others have said, this is going well off-topic.

Whatever happens in the war, and the peace talks if they work, winning a lasting peace is not going to be straightforward.
These Russian 'Z-correspondents' on Telegram really don't seem to have any self-awareness.

'On the territory of the Russian Federation, we did not elect him, we have our own leader.' You didn't elect Putin either. Putin elected Putin. By the way, Putin is not the leader of Ukraine, where you are fighting.

'And that's what we are fighting for – for our right to live by our own decisions.' So is Ukraine. You forfeited the right to make your own decisions when you invaded it. '

Have to agree on one part "I don't like his boorish arrogance" but as for Trump doing what ever he wants to stop the brutal, illegal invasion of sovereign country, more power to his elbow. At least he was elected in a genuine free election against a real opponent.

I hope you are not insinuating that Mr Genocode wasn't !

Trump threatens 'taxes, tariffs and sanctions' on Russia over Ukraine war

US president Donald Trump says Russia will face "high levels of taxes, tariffs and sanctions" if President Vladimir Putin does not end the war in Ukraine.

Trump begins the post, external on his Truth Social platform expressing his "love" for the Russian people and his "good relationship" with Putin, and then issues a direct warning to "STOP this ridiculous War!"

He writes: "IT'S ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE. If we don't make a 'deal', and soon, I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries."

"It's time to 'MAKE A DEAL'. NO MORE LIVES SHOULD BE LOST," he adds.

I'm shocked that any NATO country is still importing anything from Russia.

That's a pretty clear message.

Not sure where it leaves those of us (including me) who thought Putin had some kind of Kompromat on Trump. Oops.

Putin is under increasing pressure, not just from Trump's peaceniks, but also from continuing Ukrainian attacks on Russian infrastructure, a failing economy, and stealth takeover manoeuvring by China.

There may also be currently hidden pressure from members of the Duma/Kremlin/political elite, which may surface in the coming weeks and months.

The war is entering an interesting phase.

Following a BBC News article about malicious Russian undersea cable-cutting, I went on to the website the BBC used as the basis.

It is pretty intuitive and you can scroll in and out just like google maps. If you scroll down the list of submarine cables on the right, it highlights it on the map. Hours of fun for someone like me (y)

The Russian spy ship didn't really need to go through the Channel to check where the cables are 🤷🏼‍♂️😉
