Saw these guys back in the day, at the Dome maybe? Brilliant live, as they are in this video. Also saw them as Manfred Mann with Paul Jones (I think) AND Mike D’Abo in a sixties revival with Colin Blunstone and Chris Farlowe years later at the Worthing Assembly halls. All were excellent

Random fact from my youth that has stuck in my head for some reason - Mike D’Abo was the first pop star to have played in an Eton vs Harrow Cricket match

Kay-O is a British rapper, considered one of the best lyricists in the drill scene. Yesterday he was sentenced to life with a minimum of 37 years in prison for murder.

Whilst the judge says that he wasn’t the killer (who hasn’t been identified) he was involved enough to be charged with the murder. In fact lyrics from a previous song appear to have been quite pivotal information after Kay-O rapped about details that the police weren’t even aware of.

This song, recorded over a prison phone released a few hours after the verdict was delivered. Music is about emotions and f*ck me, unsurpisngly it’s palpable here. I wouldn’t say it’s a fun listen or a song I’m going to have on repeat a lot but for me a song doesn’t have to be fun to be the best.

“Looking at a third of a century but C’est La Vie”. Christ.
