Just far enough away from LDC
See, I think it's best to avoid subjects which are so fun that they can easily be self-taught...
Not sure it can be self taught to everyone. People can become good at it, but when people are great it really shows

Computing, computing, computing, computing, computing - the future is now with the geeks. My daughter is doing a degree in engineering and is surprised at how much coding she has had to do and wished she could have gone back and done computer science. Shame there’s no Chinese language (Mandarin). apart from that do what they like the best so they are more likely to get higher grades as once they’ve done there A levels all everyone is interested in his how many GCSE they have and at what grade

It messes up the poll but, for the record, students (at this school) have to do:

Maths
English (Language and Lit)
Spanish
Science
History

Economics

Anything that doesn’t involve an exam at the end of the course….the thought of revising and having to sit in hall for a couple of hours twiddling my thumbs with a blank sheet of paper in front of me, doesnt fill me with any desire to revisit GCSE’S

English language and literature ( I did a very good essay on Julius Ceasar but got b@@locked by our teacher by spelling Caesar wrong jus once on page 1. @Bodian may have witnessed it!)
History (I found interesting at O level but incredibly boring before then)
Geography (I found it interesting and some good field trips at A level)
Business Studies
Computing Science
I don't remember the Ceasar incident - but in relation to field trips I'm pretty sure I witnessed you nicking the boats in Keswick for an early morning row on Derwentwater....

And a language. And history or geography.

In your son's school, yes, but I didn't include those as they're not compulsory in all schools.

It's almost as if he dived in without reading the opening post, isn't it?

It is, although your OP is a bit of a dogs dinner 😁

Oh no, it's not that - it's because some NSCers can't read, apparently. Odd that English is included in the list of optional subjects though.
