All the biggest game producers like Blizzard, Riot, EA and so forth employ pro-gamers in game design roles because they've often spent like 10k hours playing the game and some of them are intelligent enough to pick up what constitutes good game design and what doesn't. They don't necessarily know programming but they know what the players appreciate and what they don't feel as good about.Imagine there must be dozens of roles, some presumably more suited to the less academically-able ?
