When certain teams played the Milwaukee Brewers MLB I would be able to listen to radio station WTMJ 620 AM out of Milwaukee and get a very static filled broadcast with Bob Uecker (a great German name) and really enjoy his broadcasting. "Mr. Belvedere's employer" would tell self deprecating jokes about his career as a catcher, the position behind home plate wearing the "tools of ignorance." I remember him saying that when he played baseball equipment companies would pay him NOT to use their baseball equipment.

Bob Uecker's Hall of Fame induction speech in 2003 was one for the ages, with classic Uecker humor

At his Hall of Fame-induction ceremony in Cooperstown in 2003, Bob Uecker delivered a memorable acceptance speech that in essence was a stand-up comedy act.

Forty-four Hall of Fame players on the stage behind him were reduced to tears over Uecker’s self-deprecating humor, and the audience of some 18,000 roared with laughter.

Uecker, who died early Thursday at 90, completely stole the show from former players Gary Carter and Eddie Murray, who were inducted into the players’ wing that day.

Recalling the days before the ’64 World Series, Uecker said, “The Cardinals’ GM at that time asked me if I would do him and the Cardinals a favor. He said, ‘We’d like to inject you with hepatitis. We need to bring an infielder up.’”

I know him from being throttled by Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania… pretty iconic moment for wrestling fans.

I have a bobblehead figure of him from attending a Milwaukee Brewers game several years ago.

RIP

Can we merge this with the Joan Plowright thread?

Were the bobblehead figures inspired by the Andre the Giant incident as posted by @jcdenton08 above or was Andre the Giant mistaking the real Bob Uecker for one of the Bob Uecker bobblehead figures?

I think, the latter.
