People take the piss out of him, which is fair game for his "singing" and songwriting but as a drummer he was great. Don't forget he was the only one of the Beatles who was actively recruited after they sacked Pete Best and appeared on post-Beatles albums by George and John.Second string drummer in a boy band, wasn't he?
What did you expect, songs that sounded like they'd been written by Lennon or McCartney?
Much better than many give him credit for and many drummers point out that he played so many different drumming styles for the Beatles. Also, when you see some of the documentaries, they say that the way he was able to keep time during the live concerts, despite the noise, was amazing - especially considering there were no decent monitors and no IEMs that are in use these days - and he did this taking queues from how the others were playing.People take the piss out of him, which is fair game for his "singing" and songwriting but as a drummer he was great.
