That might be the case but I doubt many fans will look at it until nearer the time (and we wouldn't know fixtures then anyway). I notice also for the Man C home fixture strangely there are a mix of trains and busses depending what time to leave the station at Brighton to Falmer. Timetables shows bus at 1556 but train at 1600, looks rather odd to me. As does the return for example Falmer to Brighton: 1848 bus, 1855 train, 1903 bus etcThis engineering work has been planned for over 2 years

Plenty of notices put out to say that people should use the service that will run to Brighton via the Arun Valley Line that weekend.

I think the bloke is trying to warn people about travel issues for the match. Seems reasonable to me? Not sure what today's result has to do with it! Commiserations to anyone who has to put up with public transport for matches.

I mean it’s procedural engineering works that were planned 2 years ago, it’s hardly misery is it. It’s a rail replacement bus. A points failure due to fatigued track would be annoying on another game they have to be maintained at some point.
His entire posting history is trolling about the trains to Falmer.
His “public service” could have waited till today. Why start a thread with the word “misery” in on the day of a 5-0?
And a journey from Mile Oak isn’t affected.

Bumping an old thread because it’s not worth starting a new one just to rant about train misery - but wtf?!
Having already bought a match ticket for Everton on 25th January, no Thameslink services north of London seem to be running at all, no usual direct trains to Brighton from Cambridge (even with any bus replacements) since they only run weekdays, no trains from Peterborough to London, Cambridge to London, Norwich to London, Kings Lynn to London -
Only way is from my nearest local station ->Ely
Ely->Cambridge North
Cambridge North ->Royston
Royston-Tottenham Hale
Tottenham Hale Tube -> Victoria
Victoria -> Brighton
Brighton-> Falmer
Over 4.5 hour journey with 6 changes and a tube across London to get to the Amex unless anyone (@jackalbion ?) has any better suggestions?
Alternative is an over 6 hour coach ride that will get me to Preston Park, then Preston Park to Brighton, Brighton to Falmer.
And some NSCers wonder why I struggle to get to every home game and why this ‘bad fan’ doesn’t have a ST

Wasn't too bad really though it helps if you have a decent supply of alcohol. Wouldn't want to do it every week though.

Daren’t drink as I have to get to East Dulwich after the match and look after my 90 year old Mum!!
-pretty sure it has to do with the new station being built at Cam South..
Anyway Ipswich first - an easy leg.

Doesn't make it any less shit. Planned or not this has been going on for over 10 years now. At one point closing the Brighton to London mainline every other weekend.This engineering work has been planned for over 2 years
I know this is a result of decades of under investment but as I say, doesn't make it less shit.

Well it’s not every other weekend is it, the last three bridges to Brighton full weekend block was *checks notes* over 2 months ago. Like I said all these people would be the first to complain and moan if there is fatigued points that mean a whole service falls over *on a match day with no warning*. When we play Everton next Saturday there is NO engineering work, and the weekend after that, or the weekend after that, or the weekend after that, but when we play Southampton, Brighton to Three Bridges is blocked. It’s almost like someone working at Southern is looking at the fixtures and making sure sensible decisions are made about engineering works depending on football fixtures, don’t know who that would be?

Maybe you didn’t read my above post above properly. The posts you and everyone (apart from GB) are responding to refer to posts made about the Everton match last February - I posted about a specific issue that effects me getting to the Everton game this year.
I can’t speak for others but it generally takes me nearly 3hrs on PT to get to home matches anyway BUT there ARE extensive engineering works that weekend (presumably because of the new station being built at South Cambridge ) that makes getting to the Everton match very tricky, especially for someone who finds tubes difficult for mobility reasons - combined with there being no service between Brighton and Cambridge at ALL (not even with a replacement bus) the journey is even more complicated than it was when we played Norwich away.
I appreciate I am probably only one of a few affected which is why I didn’t start a new thread. However, I posted in the hope you or someone else might have an alternative route suggestion to the one I listed - not to get a sarcastic response about how well the trains are run or being accused of being a moaner.

I appreciate that there are engineering works in Cambridge, overall that will affect one person, but the quote I responded to was in response to Three Bridges to Brighton, where there is no engineering work. It’s a different engineering block as the last few weekends through Royston. I’m responding to the people talking about last year, so not really sure, what the it has to do with your enquiry here? GB answered you, there is no different answer.
This engineering work has nothing to do with Cambridge south, but is between Royston and London, believe it’s the East Coast digital programme. The best course of action from Ely is to go to Cambridge, where you can get a train to Tottenham Hale, which is a fully accessible station, Victoria Line to Victoria, then a Gatwick Express down to Brighton, without having to use a single replacement bus if that helps.

Maybe I should have pm’d you instead or started a new thread so apologies for the confusion with the issues last year. It was unfortunate my request for help was buried in general responses that were irrelevant to my query.
There have been regular periodic disruptions between Royston and Cambridge since last year (mostly weekends) relating to building Cambridge South which are announced in advance and will continue until the project is completed - it wasn’t unreasonable to think the 25th Jan disruption might be for the same reason, I hadn’t checked the most recent updates:
GB didn’t quite address my query btw - because that journey fans took to the Norwich match is simply not available on 25th Jan. (Not sure why fans went via Victoria when I would have gone via St Pancras?) There were Thameslink trains running between London and Royston when we played Norwich with very easy hop on hop off replacement buses to Cambridge/North that involved no diversions of the route and which I said on the Norwich thread having done it myself over Christmas, was a very easy and only added 20 mins to the journey.
Thanks for the confirming the route I came up with initially is my only option - Ely-Cam-TH-Tube-Victoria it is then. You are right, it’s very doable, it just will take a long time and be much more tiring with much more walking for me.
