3…..my oldest one (c50-100 spam emails a day), a newer one I set up that gets much less spam and the one I tend to use for anything new now and one with the charity I ‘work’ for…..

Depends if you count all the burner ones you can make with companies like Apple, so you can sign up for things then cut them out at any point. With them, loads. Without them, just 3 or 4 main ones.

I had a NTL one for donkeys years and only got a gmail one when I was forced to move from Virgin to Sky. The NTL one is no more. If I have a Sky one as part of the change I have no idea what it is.
I lost my work email when I retired - perfect in more ways than one.

When I first got an email address the much younger Mrs Comrade Sam (obviously prior to marriage) introduced me to the concept. So for nearly 30 years we have shared an email address. But now they are considered as fingerprints and this constantly proves an issue, so we both have second addresses.

Five.
Work
A 25 year old personal yahoo.com that yahoo have spent 20 years trying to get me to change to a yahoo.co.uk without success*. Spam free.
A Gmail I was forced to create for a reason I have forgotten. I never use it and wouldn't even know how to log on.
A BT one I never activated.
A Netscape.net one that I'm sure would still work if I SHOUTED at it.

(Just the two then).

*the ludicrous twats.

As I have my own domain I use a different email address for every site that needs one. Much easier to track where spam originates from. Also have a couple of gmail ones.
Yes, exactly the same. I've had my domain name since 1997 and to all intents and purposes I've got an infinite number of email addresses. (It's not of course, but it's as good as). I do have to keep a list though so I can remember what name I've used for what site!

Why would anyone need more?

Unless some folk need numerous email addresses for creating fourth and fifth accounts on NSC??
In my case, I often get assigned an email address by a client because they want messages to be seen to be sent from – and come into – an in-house account, as opposed to my personal/main business one.

Last year I was up to six, but one is about to go because the company is closing and there's another one I hardly use, only to monitor stuff that comes in that might be useful for someone else. That leaves me with:

Main Gmail one (mostly business, but personal one as well)
One client one
One other business one (for another business)
A historic Hotmail one that hardly ever gets seen/used.

When I was scambaiting (see 419eater.com and the Scams thread here), well over a dozen. But since I gave that up, just two; business and personal.

3.
hotmail.com for generic stuff and signups, the spammy type things. This is also my google account for their services (it was opened before google existed, otherwise I'd have probably gone with gmail)
me.com for actual email correspondences and to show I am an apple og.
protonmail because it's based in Switzerland and this government can't access it. This is used for banking, accounting, trading, crypto type emails.

5 in total

1x work
1 x personal I use for most things (Yahoo - I've had this account and address for 25 years+)
1 x personal for signing up for things that I suspect might spam me (gmx)
2 x gmail set up with new phones that I use just for those "sign in with your google account" sites and apps and for google shared drive and shared calendar stuff

3 - one old personal, one new personal (with a more professional/grow up sounding address) and one work.

But I've probably had about 10 all in, given constant company name changes at work over last 15 years.

This.
I must have 100's in total in use. Quick scan of my firefox password shows page after page of different addresses.
As boik states, by putting the company name first followed by @xxxx your domain name it means I can see where every email has come from.
Similar to @bbc.co.uk where different shows or people put their name first.
Further, the email software can delete or place in a certain inbox.
