Glorious Goodwood
Broadway the Hard Way, good album and will remind you of 80s dodgy stuff. Nice cameo by Sting. Saw this at the Brighton Centre in 87.

Apostrophe! The suite about Nanook the eskimo not eating yellow snow, and killing seal clubbers.

Thanks everyone. It says something that 23 posts in everyone has pretty much provided a different favourite album.

The appearance of this thread has sent me off down a Zappa rabbit hole. What a loss to music that man is.

Not an album, but a cracking live gig. The Allman bros whipping post finale is superb.

The only other Zappa fan I knew as a teenager was a good looking jock and I found it strangely gratifying that he followed a not dissimilar journey to that of the title character.

Hot Rats and Apostrophe have to be the classics.
Saw him play a couple of times, including the notorious gig at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park in 1971 (I was 16), when he was pushed into the orchestra pit by an audience member invading the stage, and quite badly hurt.
I also have some affection for his track Valley Girl, made with his then teenage daughter, mocking the way young Californians spoke - listening to it now… it just sounds like the way pretty much everyone under 30 speaks

Thanks everyone. So far I have listened to Over-Nite Sensation, Apostrophe('), Hot Rats and Sheik Yabouti. So far, so good.

Phew. I thought this was an RIP thread - oh, wait a minute...

Joking aside, you could follow up with a bit of Captain Beefheart. Trout Mask Replica probably his best, and paid for by Zappa.

Thanks everyone. It says something that 23 posts in everyone has pretty much provided a different favourite album.
Also, as the man once said in an interview "It's wrong to say most of my tracks are about bodily fluids. Only 15, maybe 20% are about bodily fluids".

Personally I avoid the bodily fluid tracks.

Apart from Camarillo Brillo, obviously.

I love the track I scream for Crow but don’t know which album it’s on ?
Ice Cream for Crow.
Obviously.

His last studio recording.

Mmmmm.... I prefer these:

The Spotlight Kid (1972)
Clear Spot (1972)
Unconditionally Guaranteed (1974)
Doc at the Radar Station (1980)
Ice Cream for Crow (1982)

Did you see him at the Dome in 75?
