A regulator you say? Like OFWAT? What could possibly go wrong.
Of course, this is the big danger; that the regulator is rather ineffective and in the pocket of the organisations he is regulating. A risk worth taking though, particularly since the EPL bosses don't want one. In fact, that is clearly the reason why there should most definitely be one.

Ultimately an attempt to make a workable regulator is much better than the alternative, PL owners doing what they want.

Not that this will help you but Openreach's engineering footprint has reduced year on year and when stuff like storms hit, well, you could be waiting a while.

OFCOM are one of the better regulators out there in reality. With presumably few people affected as you live remotely you will be lower down the queue as they will order fixes on a revenue loss even if they say they don't

Don't hold your breath mate.
Thanks - I get it, it's literally just us! I also understand that they will (and should) prioritise higher impact issues but at some point it needs to get done!!! This emphasises my point though, £9.76 a day isn't worth their concern. TalkTalk customer service is something beyond anything I've ever experienced, it's just pathetic, no wonder they're going bust.

"We’ve two choices with those costs. We either stop doing some of the things we’re already doing, whether that’s academy, women’s, girls’ football or whatever, or we pass those costs on to fans."
That makes two things on which I now fundamentally disagree with PBOBE - this, and his obsession with people not passing a ticket to a family member or mate if they can't go, with draconian penalties for anyone caught trying it.

I mean... there are more than that aren't there. There's a clear third choice here which is just make less money.

Which no one was complaining about when we were losing nearly £20M the season we got promoted

As for Barber stating the possible need to pass on the cost to the fans, every single other cost is passed onto us so I'm not too fussed about this. I cannot imagine it will be much any way.

Barber regularly uses the cuts or raise prices threat in fans forums and it's the one area I think he's really poor in (for most part he's a sublime football CEO). Fans aren't stupid and you can't have the same papers interview the American owners about how English football is a wildly undervalued market on the global stage and there is huge untapped money to be made and say that there would be no money left if the government added some level of regulation in at the same time. If the Premier League wants to make more money, it can, and it will - ticket prices will be inconsequential to this.

Saying that, it's not just Barber who is shite on the regulator. Parish and Bloom got an absolute grilling in the select committee that really made them (two of the better owners of Premier League football clubs) look quite selfish and some of the comments from Bloom ("I think it is much better for football to work things out itself. Without it being perfect, I think the fact there have been three liquidations since 1992 is a very good result.") were way whackier than anything PBOBE says in the article.

LOL. My next door neighbour works for the CAA in a senior capacity and we’ve had numerous discussions…….I couldn’t disagree more on aviation. I’m now experiencing it in education and social care. It’s not materially different

Also, I didn’t say it wasn’t needed
Education and certainly social care probably a bit more under staffed and under funded than the Premier League though....

Managing in adult social care and dealing with CQC, God I hated dealing with them due to lack of time, staff and resources but if I was a Premier League funded Compliance manager ? Doubt it would be quite so stressful..

So why are you not shouting for a regulator of the West End Theatres where top price seats can now be £300 or more with no concessions for pensioners.
Because ticketing issues are already covered by a regulator in this country - The Competitions and Markets Authority. If there is a sufficient issue in how ticketing is administered for events, it is investigated and regulated by the regulator - see the current investigation into Ticketmaster re: dynamic pricing. They can, and have, been involved in Football as well but just to ensure that organisations aren't channelling tickets through re-sales at a profit and to ensure that there is no conflict of interests in mergers and takeovers.

Insane level of whataboutery though, fair play.

Agree….I meant in terms of the regs, how they are audited, the amount of work that needs to be done to maintain and demonstrate compliance and the utter ballache of dealing with the regulators

Barbs will probably leave the BHA Compliance dept underfunded because he thinks it’s a waste of space……I’ve seen that happen in other settings as well 🤣

Will be fascinating to see if the ‘fear culture’ develops over time too

I'm going to save you some grief and merge this into the existing thread...

Funny how they didn't pass on any of the huge windfall profits to the fans last season
