[Albion] Who was our last rapid CB?

Trying to remember the last time we had a regular starting CB blessed with pace, that we owned!

At the moment it seems obvious it’s the one thing we’re really lacking especially with the pressure tactics we employ and the space behind.

Dunk, GG, Upson, Cullip, Butters, many great qualities but pace wasn’t one of them; Foster was a bit before my time as was Lawrenson.

There may be a player that’s glaringly obvious but I can’t think of one.

Webster had a good turn of pace when he first signed, however he's had a lot of hamstring issues and seems to have lost a bit of pace (same issues as Lamptey)
Indeed. I think it's a bit of a myth that our CBs are slow. Dunk is and has been for a while, although more now recognise it (which might have coincided with him losing more of it). That's a good assessment of Webster. Igor is really quick when he gets going (although that's the issue with him). JPvH is no slouch either.

Gary Stevens.

Foster had the same turning circle as the Torrey Canyon.

Lawrenson was distinctly nippy; Fozzie less so. I know we generally played him as a LB, but his long legs and galloping gait sometimes blurred the fact that Dan Burn was covering the ground quite quickly.

Don’t often disagree with you but JPvH is not quick, neither is Igor particularly (IMO), but your summary about when he gets going is probably accurate, and I may be wrong, he just has the turning circle of an oil tanker.

Dunk has never been quick, but he reads the game the best out all of our team, and in that respect is getting better with age.

Webbo remains one of the quicker ones, but has slowed and also reads the game well. Lawrenson and Stevens were both quick.

With FH tactics I honestly think pace
Is hugely important. I also think he wants to play 3 at the back and over load the opposition box with wing backs, like Lamptey last week. This puts more emphasis on pace. I’d be very interested to see who he picks when / if he gets real pace at the back. I also think this player will come to us as a younger player, not the finished article. Much like us trying to buy Van Dijk 10-12 years ago.

Most (or our?) CHs take a while to build up speed and are then fairly quick over 15 - 20m, but not over shorter distances.
Probably due to their physique.

You're not allowed to be a CB and have pace.
These days if you say you’re a CB and have pace you get arrested and thrown in jail
