A 5Live discussion on the WWE being shown on Netflix then turned to the chances of the Premier League going the same way.
One of the guests was, having researched it since, Chris Blackhurst, author of "The World's Biggest Cash Machine: Manchester United, the Glazers, and the Struggle for Football's Soul" - https://amzn.to/4a9KKJx
He said that the Glazers and their administration seriously considered giving free entry to those behind both goals at Old Trafford on the proviso that they wore lanyards with some sort of sound detection technology attached, in order that fans could be monitored to ensure they were singing. If they sang sufficiently they'd retain their right for free entry.
This was, of course, to ensure that the atmosphere was good which made for a better "product" to sell to media partners, presumably earning higher revenue.
I've not really got anything to end this post with, but I found it an amazing concept. I know some have said before "they could let all fans in for free because most of the money comes from TV", but this is the first time I've heard anything that suggested it has been seriously considered.
