I'm just sorting my first six-monthly blood test following the end of radiotherapy at Preston Road in July (I think it was). There was one blood test at the end that showed my PSA level below 2. I'm around two-thirds of the way through the hormone therapy too. Absence of libido and extra body fat are two of my main side-effects (although advancing age and a fairly rubbish diet could also be involved there) but the main one is the sweating - unpredictable and uncontrollable. A small price to pay, though, for still being here to enjoy the Albion and everything else that life has to offer.

If anyone reading this thinks they might have prostate cancer, I can only echo what others have said here - get tested. Early diagnosis saves lives. It has saved mine twice now.

My older brother was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. I’m in my mid 60s. Apparently these 2 things mean I have a greater likelihood of getting it too. I have a PSA test next week. Thanks for the useful info here, and the various links posted.
I never did update this post, nor thank people for the good wishes. I went for the PSA test and fortunately I was given a clean bill of health.

One sad note, however. The very same week I had my test, I heard from an old friend who lived in Hong Kong, that he was in hospital after being diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. I flew out to visit him. He was clearly very ill, and a week after I returned to the UK, he died. I flew out again for his funeral.

We went to countless matches together over the 45 years we were friends (we met at university), all over the UK and Europe, depending on where I was living at the time. He was last here in April and I took him to Albion v Arsenal. In September, not long before his diagnosis he messaged me to say he’d booked some holiday for January 2025. "Looks like we'll be seeing Brighton-Arsenal again", he said. Sadly, that was not to be. When I’m at the match on Saturday, I know I’ll be feeling quite emotional.

Cancer of any kind is such a cruel disease.

Good luck.
I finished my course of radiotherapy on Christmas Eve, just waiting for a blood test and an appointment with my oncologist now.
Still having hormone injections.
Cheers mate, yeah I've got 3 years of injections ,just glad to finally start Radiotherapy as it's been 10 months from initial diagnosis. All the best with blood test

Hot flushes. To think that I've moaned about the wife complaining about having hot flushes at night. Last few weeks I've had the ceiling fan on for short periods to cool down.
Just been for a flow test and may need some operation to ease when I have a wee, overnight stay. If they're thinking of shoving anything up my penis they've got to find it first....

Morning everyone, how are we all doing ? I've got 4 more sessions of Radiotherapy to go and must admit these past 3 or 4 days have really started to hit . Not sleeping well at all ,having to get up every couple of hours throughout the night for a pee , just generally feeling knackered. I'm at hospital by 7:30 each day so that early morning drive probably isn't helping either . Anyhow sorry about the moan ,hope everyone's getting on OK and beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel regarding treatment.

Hi John,
This is what the threads for, sharing experiences and chatting about things.
Always good to hear a moan 👌
Glad to see you're coming to the end of your treatment.
Take care.

Just had my first annual MRI after 12 months on active surveillance.... Very relieved that the results show no growth and it's still totally contained within the prostate. Was a bit worried when my PSA jumped after the last blood test but had the flu jab the week before and apparently this can affect results. Anyway, now I've been moved to 6 monthly PSA tests and 2 yearly MRI's which is excellent and takes away from Saturday's disappointment... :)

If any blokes over 50 on here still think "it won't happen to me" please get yourself checked with a simple blood test. Even if like me you have no symptoms or no family history. It could be a life saver. (y)

I'm four months in from the first PSA test that was bad. Just had my second Hormone Therapy jab.
I've got the External Beam Radiotherapy to come later.
Glad to hear you are nearly through yours and wish you all the best for the future, knowing you'll be alive to see it.
You may even be alive long enough to see us beat a relegation threatened team at home!
