Agree with most about Black Doves, very watchable and some good comedic value.

Carry On - absolutely dreadful and incredibly irritating. The worst film I've watched in years.

La Palma - I've never met a Norwegian in 52 years so I refuse to believe there are that many in the Canary Islands! Enjoyed it, the actual disaster scene was very good I thought but 4 good episodes completely undone with the last scene.

Official Secrets ….already watched but happy to give it another run …with footage of a Smug looking Blair showing his nose growing by the second
Kathryn Gunn …what an amazing person

Anyone started Squid Game yet? Small children and visiting family means it’ll be a while until I get to start it.
Seen three episodes so far. It’s definitely a step down in quality from the first series.

Two so far, good but not great. Hoping things get a bit tighter, still enjoying it all the same.

My daughter suggested we watch Will last night. It's about Dutch police in occupied Antwerp and how they negotiate the Nazi persecution of Jews and communists, deal with collaborators and the resistance, with personal stories woven in. It's graphic, challenging and disturbing. She had to stop watching it and I had to force myself to finish it. Not a film to watch if you need cheering up.

Not Netflix afaik but hope this goes for general tv-series stuff as well?

Saw the Swedish miniseries "Whiskey on the Rocks" yesterday, about the Russian submarine that got stuck in Swedish waters in the 1980s. Its mainly a comedy, written by Jonas Jonasson who had an international hit with "The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared".

Trailer:

While it COULD be a little bit too Swedish, I think it will get a decent international recoginition given the very high production value, good acting and quirky story with stupid Swedes, Americans and Russians all being more or less ridiculed.

Nice, easy watch, not overly political or thought provoking but a fun 3 hours. Not sure if its on any international streaming services yet as it was just released, but given that Disney are co-producers I'd imagine the idea is to export it. Edit: Ok, seems like "Hulu" on January 22 is the international release.

Watched first three and am enjoying it. I think it is almost as good as the 1st series. It's only 7 episodes this time as a 3rd and final series will be coming in 2025.

The film Riphagen, based on a true story, dovetails quite well with Will, both very good films covering police collusion and collaboration/resistance during the Dutch occupation.

Again staying off Netflix to Sky Atlantic, this is wonderful, now concluded but 4 whole series to enjoy. One of my favourite ever series enhanced by a Max Richter soundtrack that is pure Italy.

Excellent show about Gunnar Sønsteby. A man with over 30 identities, he eluded the Gestapo for five years and became Norway's most decorated war hero.
Amazing man.
