That's sad. They were probably pretty naff by the time I was old enough to know about them but remember him coming to our school with the Piranhas to play Zambezi. Our music teacher Andy Murray was in the band. RIP.
I remember a Mr Murray…was he at Tideway? I don’t think he was so I’m not sure why I know the name.

I‘m really gutted about this. We were friends on the Brighton music scene and Hanover pubs about 25 years ago - my circle of friends at the time.

Used to bring his dear Mum into the London Unity in Islingword Road and sit at the bar when I was working.

Loyal Albion fan.

This one’s for the road, you boring old s*d and thanks for the help in raising funds to get us a new Stadium 😍

I lived in Hanover Terrace as a kid and used to see him through the window of the London Unity pub. The Saturday after he was on TOTPs he was walking up Islingwood Rd carrying his mums shopping.
Years later, about 20 years ago, he played a few times in the cricketers on Southwick Green. Great night's.

RIP Bob

Birds With Ears were my favourite Brighton band; Ian was such a brilliant front-man - one look at him, and you thought "Yup, Art College student"! I still play their only album, Youth In Asia, today.

An old school friend of mine, Stu Jones, managed them for a while, and also worked in the Attrix record Shop in Sydney Street.
Knew Stu well. A good egg

Very sad news. The first gig I every played was in the old church hall in Air Street ( long gone now). I was about 16. The band we supported were called "So and So's Traveling Wotsits" and Bob Grover was the lead singer.
RIP

Very sad, I didn’t live through his heyday but I was aware of what a local legend he was, and actually got to see him perform in a pub for a little reunion some years back. RIP.

Really sad to hear this.

Loved the 'Brighton scene' and the Attrix/Vaultage Records bands of the early '80s - The Piranhas, The Chefs, The Objeks, Birds With Ears, The Dodgems, and Reward System.

These bands, and venues like The Alhambra, and Brighton Art College/Basement, were an important part of my youth/student days.
Of course John Helmer went on to form Pookiesnackenburger with Nick and Paul Dwyer (from Nicky and the Dots) , Sue Bradley from the Reward System and Luke Cresswell who went on to form Stomp. All good and very close friends from an amazing era.
