Ah come on man have a f***ing word with yourself.

Guy has been back for quite literally five minutes and people are IMMEDIATELY on his back.

ffs.

How am I on his back? I'm simply saying that he doesn't look to have fully recovered from his injury.

Guess you had to be there if you didn’t see him on camera.

I was there and couldn't believe how slow he was when running back, behind the ball and their player.

But yes, he put in several short intense runs at the speed I remembered him

Well that's good if accurate.

of course he is going to be slower running back but our right backs don’t have to run fast if they play deep - Hinshelwood isn’t fast, I wouldn’t say Veltman was especially fast either.

He was fast enough to do the job he came on to do for the length of time he was on imo.

Harping on about ‘how unbelievably slow’ he is as a winger or even FB is simply unfair grumbling imo. He’s had 14 months out of the first team literally playing 26 minutes of competition football with the U21s in October, operations on his knee to repair his meniscus and a ruptured ACL - he’s not going to get his long distance winger speeds back for weeks, if not months.

He deserves a heck of a lot of respect for the mental and physical journey he’s got through tbh.

Also if you noticed well into the second half our defensive line was much deeper - so no if we were playing as high as we were in the first 25 minutes of the first half, where Verbruggen was on the halfway line and our defenders in Brentford’s half, I wouldn’t have put March on but that wasn’t the case at 88 minutes went FH sent him on..

He wouldn't be playing if he hadn't fully recovered from his injury.

What he hasn't recovered is Premier League match fitness. As he said himself in his post-match interview, that just can't be recreated on the training ground.

It will come if he has the opportunity to build match minutes.

I said I thought he was slow. That's not harping on.

Yes. He was 'chasing' back and I think I could have outrun him.

Oh. I understand needing to be match fit to last a game, keep running, changing direction, running etc, but he should be able to run at speed for the short time he was on. Athletes manage to run world record times simply by training before an event, so I'm not sure why a footballer can't be able to run quickly after enough training. He looked like he couldn't run at all.
I think we all want to see Solly back to his pre injury form as quick as possible. However, I thought it was an odd substitution as he was quite clearly not match fit , he admitted it himself in a post match interview, and with the game balanced at 0-0 it could have backfired. He did get badly caught out on the touchline that thankfully came to nothing. I guess it would be better to blood him with us 3-0 up but when does that ever happen nowadays !

It's ok, we can blood him when 3-0 down tomorrow.

This isn’t funny or interesting but I need to get it off my chest - that phrase always tickles me.

Used to play Pro Evolution Soccer with a now sadly departed mate when we were teens, as was the style at the time.

We’d play Master League training mode for a laugh and “blood” the youngsters - by having the senior pros repeatedly two footing them from behind.

This morphed into the phrase “bludgeon the youth”. It’s all I can think of when I hear the phrase now

And I’ve said several times in response to you saying that to me that on short spurts imo he was fine but he’s not 90 minutes match fit and doesn’t have the endurance to cover distance yet - that’s going to take weeks if not months build up.

Of course he’s not peak Solly. Who would be after 14 months out of the game and with the injury he’s had.

I honestly don’t get this - what are people expecting?!

You don’t build up match fitness on a training pitch - you need the pace and intensity of actually playing competitive games.

That means building up minutes incrementally the same way you have to with any other player returning from long term injury - the same in fact as building up newly signed youth players (and sometimes older players) who have never played in the Premier League.

Not sure those negatively critiquing Solly’s 10 minutes really appreciate the physical demands of Premier League football and the condition it takes to play 90 mins ( or even 45)

Why do you view it as negative. He can play competitive games but not for the first team yet. Yes at some stage he needs to be tried out but it was clear he was way off against Brentford and it was a risk not worth taking - in my opinion.

If we had been 3-0 up and cruising sure bring him on, if Brentford had broke and scored because of his fitness levels then it would have been one of the stupidest subs made. FH got lucky dumb decision though with the game at 0-0.
Well I thought there might be an element of trying to wake up the crowd and create some interest as the match was rather petering out by that stage as far as BHA were concerned.

I’m saying critiquing him or Fabian for giving Solly minutes is negative as that is exactly what he needs to build up stamina..nobody comes back from
14 months injury and plays 90 minutes.

Im sure we’ll give him a few cup matches and U21s too but the pace and intensity of PL is a bit of a leap from the U‘s and most cup matches so it won’t be enough if we want Solly starting in a PL match line up in the first team.
