Good choice. I tipped him as soon as I heard Paxman was stepping down. Wish I'd had a bet now. He's a real smart cookie.

Seemly paxo’s stand in was promised the job and she was not considered, preferring amoL

Quite like him on Today.

As choices go, a little uninspired. However, there just aren’t the calibre of broadcaster these days as there was 30 years ago. Plus, the beeb were not going to choose another middle aged, white person. So immediately you’re ruling out most of the BBC presenting cohort.

Perfectly acceptable choice.

Last night (8.30pm BBC2) was the first of the festive alumni contests and Durham trounced Warwick. A University of Sussex academic (Fraser) was on the winning team and got lots of questions right.

The fact that both teams were all women got Twitter err, all of a twitter about the BBC being 'woke'. Wait until they see the Brighton team on Boxing Day.
