THE best day of the holiday season. No cooking for five hours, giving pricy devices and receiving socks, tidying up wrapping paper or playing games you don’t understand half pissed.

Just a fridge full of slightly dodgy food, the rest of the booze and non stop football. Thank ****.

All cleared up this morning. Tree down for another year, decs back in the cupboard. Had a lovely day yesterday but glad the annual spend on crap no one needs is over until next year. Fresh start for the new year.

Not forgetting a couple of hours of good horse racing this afternoon. While I would have preferred Albion v Brentford to be this afternoon, at least it means I don’t have to fight the Amex Wi-Fi to watch the King George on my phone.

I’ve got a ticket for Southampton-West Ham (we’re already down this way). I always enjoy watching a match as a neutral. We'll be back home in time for the Liverpool game on TV, along with Chinese takeaway. That’ll do me.

Agree, the greatest day in the calendar

Early start

Hour in the gym

Shortbread for breakfast

Scanning the accas and looking for some value in the horse racing cards
Tone has a horse running at Aintree 15:35 (Is This For Real 7/2)

Although it’s an afternoon at the in laws it will be a 4 match buffet special

Off to the in laws for lunch. Hopefully bacjk in time for 8.00 KP.

Didn't drink much yesterday so no chance of Boxing Day driving embarrassment

I used to absolutely love the Christmas-NYE interim for the freedom to have daily routines such as yours. Would invariably involve meeting mates in pub for afternoon beers as well.

Now I have children.

A mince along to the local (via Ladbrokes for the accas). An idle perusal of the paper, with the 12.30 game on in the background and a few beers. Then slope back to watch the 3pm scores coming in, whilst grazing on some cheese, crackers and pickles. Throw the accas in the bin, have a fiddle with my new phone to get the setup how I like it. Probably a light doze while I wait for the doris to get home from work. Then stick a film on, might watch Gladiator II.

Dull, quiet, but enjoyable.
