The would you want Bissouma back thread got me thinking. What is our best Premier League 11?

The rules are it’s how they played for us that counts and in the position they played for us (so no Gyokeres or Ben White at right back).

I’m heading off to think about my choices.

Good call but it is a squad game for me and all of those (plus others in peak form) could do a job. I would not include Bruno in that list - his passing was erratic.

So I can't answer this any more than I can name my Perfect Day.

Because he didn’t play full back for us.
eees complicated

He kind of played right back. Ish. Sometimes.

Anyway:

Sanchez

White, Van Hecke, Dunk

Gross, Bissouma, Caicedo, Mac Allister, Cucurella

Trossard, Mitoma

Harsh on Welbeck but..

Surely you need more presence upfront than Trossard and Mitoma offer. Love the midfield, it would absolutely boss the middle against almost everyone.

I just think those two are too good to leave out. But yeah maybe Welbeck for Mitoma.

Very deliberately choosing Estupinan over Cucu, as this should be based on form for us. Estupinan 22/23 was more consistent and a better defender than Cucu 21/22 …. R5/TS experts in 22/23 casually mentioned Estupinan as the best LB in the PL.

Goalkeeper is tricky. Steele’s distribution exemplary, key to our greatest 90’ performances.

I reserve the right to change my mind.

You can only change your mind if you remember to take it with you and don't leave it behind while watching a film.

Manager for this exercise must be the former Ghanan manager and the greatest "keeper upper" in the PL.

Steele

Veltman Dunk Colwill Cucurella

Caicedo Mac Allister

March Gross Mitoma

Murray

Subs: Verbruggen, JPVH, Estupinan, Baleba, Welbeck, Lallana, Bissouma, Joao Pedro, Trossard.

Putting aside my dislike of certain players who have left, I think this is 'best'. Murray is in because he is the only striker we've ever had where I expected him to score when he had a chance. I expected all the others to mess it up somehow, and they usually did.

Almost this, but White (RCB) and Dunk (LCB) for me if going four at the back - Colwill was never ours. The season we had White didn't we mostly play three at the back to accommodate him? I'm pretty sure he played RB on occasions too.
Would like to squeeze in Mwepu too, but not quite sure how - and Sanchez for Steele.

I like balance and combinations so:

CB's Dunk'nDuffy (kept us up, hard AF, so good together got goals too)

Sanchez behind them: we noticeably improved when he started playing.

FBs - The 2 Catalans: Bruno i Cucurella (Bruno better attacker than Velts, Cucu had a near-perfect season with us at LB) - Spain really knows how to churn out full-backs, eh...

MID: Can't beat Mac and Moi - well done to the algorithm

Outside: RM Gross and LM Tross - game winners both

Up top: Murray and JP. As someone else said, you always felt Muzza would score. JP just edges other forwards with the win/score penalty routine, but Welbs was close.
