[Albion] Club selling your seat, is this right?

Hi, I’m posting this on behalf a friend.

My friend has been a season ticket holder since day 1 at the Amex, this season he’s struggling to attend every fixture due to providing childcare for his two children. He received an email from the club advising that his Brentford and Everton tickets had been sold which came as a surprise as they weren’t listed as he was planning on attending those fixtures. He duly logged on to find all remaining qualifying fixtures on the ticket exchange. He spoke to supporter services and they claimed that they’d made multiple attempts to contact him to advise of their intentions. He found one email in his junk box. He’s been told if he wishes to attend the Brentford and Everton games he needs to buy an additional tickets.

Does this seem right? Feels a little unfair to me.

Certainly doesn't feel right, seems overly harsh. Has he been listing the ticket on the exchange for games he's not been able to attend?

With over half the season still go to they are nowhere near breaching the 25% minimum attendance limit (not that I've ever seen the club impose that before).

While I can just about understand the SS wanting to maximise income, this seems completely over the top.
Although, from your friend's perspective, he wants to see the next 2 games, have they at least refunded his money for his seat that has been sold?
I appreciate that he may in fact have chosen to ignore previous emails, rather than having not seen them (I clearly do not know either way), but being told that you can not use your season ticket because we have sold it to A N Other seems very harsh. And then you have to buy another, at a higher price, possibly in a different area of the ground?
Would a phone call to him have been unreasonable before they took his ticket away and listed it?

This seems a bit odd. I've been in a similar situation for the past few seasons and have listed the majority of home matches (most of which have sold). I've never had a single communication from the club, other than the automated emails telling me ticket has been sold and confirmation of refund etc. Something isn't adding up here, because it isn't how the club operates at all.

Pretty sure that I'm going to have my season ticket revoked at the end of the year for not using the ticket personnally enough.

Realistically it is 8 more years before my weekend childcare complications are behind me.

Oh well. Pity. But my bank manager will be happier.

And have those missed games then been listed on the ticket exchange? & is he getting a refund for the Brentford/Everton games? For the club to step in and do something like this I would assume it's because of many consecutive missed games in a season, none of which were listed on the exchange, and then MANY attempts to contact you. Surely this wouldnt happen if you'd just missed a couple.

This - doesn't seem like all the facts are known on here perhaps. If there was nothing more than a single email before this action was taken I'd be surprised :shrug:

Seems ridiculous....Presume he is or has paid for his ticket for season. We are simply reminded we need to attend a percentage of games per season which even if he has been to none so far he will be able to comply with. Club needs to lighten up over ticket usage for friends when you can`t go. "It`s ok for the elite in 1901" to let anyone go but not for us normal season ticket holders.
Come renewal time I`d guess there will be many who struggle to renew.

I think what they’re trying to do is encourage people to either attend, share or list on the exchange. What the don’t want is no shoes and empty seats when there’s demand for a sold-out game.

Please keep your shoes on stay in your seat. No loitering in the aisles especially if you have no shoes on!!!!!! You're liable to get your toes stepped on!!!!

Are there any sold out games ?? .........Last few home games many empty seats. Maybe Brentford but surely Arsenal will be a sell out.

Clear in the T&Cs unfortunately - they can take action if you don't attend a certain % (this is the first time I've heard of it actually happening), and if you don't list on the exchange or share your ticket

Then that’s their fault for the profiteering system that’s in place. So many more seats would be filled if a simple system was in place that worked for passing on tickets. But no, they want more money.

The biggest problem is that the exchange itself is a waste of time. I’ve had to put two up for sale this year and neither ticket has sold. Had I been able to pass it on, they’d have had bums in seats and extra money from concessions.

It’s greed, pure and simple.

For my part, I hope there’s a ton of facts missing from the OPs post (although I highly doubt it). Otherwise this is sickening to me, and shows how much contempt the club continue to have for fans.

Interesting…I have missed 5 of the home games this year and put 3 on the exchange and 2 to a member + mate

does that mean I will also get a letter at some time?
