To be honest , its a personal thing but really don't like it when people call someone an idiot because they have a different opinion...

I generally agree but when the opinions are idiotic and, especially, when they denigrate others, I don't have much sympathy.

Some people on here have less patience than Harold Shipman.

This.

Disagree with Piltdown on Gruda, but a good and very fair poster IMO, who is, of course entitled to an opinion like everyone else…..

Edit - and your opinion on Bruno of course about 10 years ago….. I don’t get out much and never forget 😂😂 Now where are my glasses…..
Caldy was a far more complete player and you know it. Lets FACE it them the facts.

Don't you think it's a bit stupid to slag off a talented young man after a few months in a new league? I mean, people are entitled to do so but they've got to expect some backlash.
Not really, just an opinion….. I would think the majority disagree in this case.

I don’t understand the need to trade insults, feels a bit silly to me….

I'm not in the habit of trading insults either. But what drives someone to start a thread singling out a young player who's barely had time to find his feet on a new country? It happens season after season and I just don't get it.

But, it’s still an opinion, and doesn’t deserve that kind of response.

Generally, as you say it does take time for a youngsters from a different country to find their feet, but I guess when you’re spending £X million, perhaps there is more of an expectation?

I’ve said elsewhere I’m disappointed with O’Riley and he’s had less minutes. 😃

Anyone remember when Jose M wrote off salah and KDB when they were young?
Can you support that with anything? Because I think that's an incorrect recollection of what happened - Mourinho wanted to spend (which is hardly a surprise!), and to do so he needed to sell off players he had no interest in using. Chelsea sold both Salah and De Bruyne for big fees which he then reinvested in the players he did want at the time. The criticism there should be that he was so short sighted that he took a pound today rather than developing the players for a year to be worth a hundred pounds in 12 months time.

Which is a lovely segway back to Gruda - the boy might be worth investing time in. It's not that long ago everybody at the football club looked at Gyokeres and saw a man who was never going to fulfil his potential at our football club. Perhaps we could all learn that lesson and realise that if you're going to invest in a player, it means playing them and giving them the opportunity to develop and grow.

I strongly hope Gruda performs and develops but I also really hope this thread isn't bounced every time he does something good as if it's proof that this was madness all along - criticism of his lack of performances for us so far isn't unreasonable, some of the language used to express that opinion arguably has been - but it was a moment in time. If the player improves with time that will be a good news story rather than an opportunity for retrospective points scoring and dunking on a member of our forum community.

I'm sure you'd agree it's way too early to make any judgement on O'Riley though, and he's 4 years older and has spent his life and career in British football.

Probably is, but he particularly needs to improve drastically out of all the new signings. Great at set pieces, but so was Ryan Harley. 😃
The fact he’s been in British football is also why I’m more concerned.

Think the step from SPL to PL is bigger than Bundesliga to PL,

Lots of things Matt needs to adapt to, like... having opponents.

Salah was 24 wasn’t he when Chelsea binned him off. Jose didn’t think a player there. The point I was making is that people on here write off Gruda who is much younger than salah. kDb was 23 wasn’t he? Again Gruda is just a young un.

When did the vast majority of our fans become massive c****?

Genuinely makes enjoying the clubs best eve period slightly tedious at times
I know exactly what you mean. But, important to note it is definitely NOT the vast majority of Albion fans who slag off our own players.

It is a very stupid, very small minority.

What a pathetic waste of everyone’s time. No one is ritually disembowelling a player by saying he had an ineffective game on a certain day against West Ham. Honestly the grandstanding bullshit you have to wade through on here to discuss what actually happened in a game of football 🙄

The original post in this thread was up there as an interesting discussion point with the sort of negative bollocks about our players that one often has to put up with at The Amex as soon as we aren't winning...

Knock yourself out if you want to join in with that.

But also understand the different approach from Albion fans who want to support our players more positively (with the very, very, occasional exception... Chuba Akpom being mine in 48 seasons and counting...)

The OP is a long member who i don't recall usually coming on to troll or have an argument . Trouble is this forum can be toxic and not a place of discussion which is strange when you look at the excellent mental health threads.

Maybe too many people watched the Monty Python sketch and think this forum is that room.

I have no issue with the OP whatsoever but you know as well as I do that after a defeat or poor run of form, we get knee jerk threads singling out players: "Spanish Dave- what exactly does he do?" The Solly March one (now retitled).

Anyone's free to start such threads and let's hope to see this one getting bounced on a regular basis in the near future.
