Today I met up with the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Doctor who saved my life following a cardiac arrest.

In the course of our conversation I told him it happened the day after travelling to watch the Albion play at Leicester in January 2023.

A big grin broke out on his face, as he told me he’s a Palace fan?! We had a good laugh about it.

That's lovely. We can get all aggy on matchday, but this is what's important in life. Glad you got to meet your rescuer... and even more glad you're with us to tell this happy tale. Happy holidays, sir.

Would make a good titbit in the next Palace-Brighton programme. Not that you can ever get one at the Stadium of Shite

I can't do the obvious joke...it's the season of goodwill to all men, women and Palace fans.

Fair play to him. Some things like life and death are bigger than football, let alone parochial rivalries.

Seven years ago, working in Croydon I was rushed to St George’s hospital under blues and twos after collapsing with what was originally thought to have been a stroke.

Coincidentally it was Christmas jumper day in the office and I was proudly wearing my Albion one, and both ambulance crew that turned up were Palace fans. A few jokes were shared to lighten the situation.

It wasn’t a stroke btw.

I think we need to rewrite the words to the long standing chant, along the the lines of “if I had the blades of a helicopter..etc”

Even more impressive given he doesn't seem to have a real helicopter - just a picture of one stuck on the wall.
