I think season of consolidation (in mid table and hopefully not worse) it’s r really that bad considering the personnel changes.

As I said earlier in the week the £200m was spent before a FFP rule change and impacted by the cycle of profit we have made in previous seasons which will run off as the look back period is fluid. The £200m was spent on the basis that it’s unlikely we will be doing this kind of spending for a while.

See Chelsea and remove a decibel point for examples of buying in bulk for the future. (As much as I hate to see it at start coming good up there)

I thought we played well yesterday and were unlucky to not win it. Sure I’m disappointed but I’m not faulting the performance overall or the team

With the chances at the end we could’ve nicked it. Like I said a couple of times before the game, I don’t like Pedro as much playing as the lone striker and I thought he and Georginio had poor games.

Not surprised by some of the negativity on here, not because it’s deserved, but because sections of our fan base are becoming bizarrely, unduly expectant about success.

Georginio misses Welbz because they have built a great understanding.
Pedro misses Welbz because it frees him to roam more.
Our midfield miss Welbz because he presses hard (when we don't have the ball) and quickly comes deeper for layoffs when we do have it.
Dunk misses Welbz because he's the captain at the top of the pitch.
I guess we miss Welbz a bit

You’re always reliant on players in form. Welbeck’s had the form of his career and with new players and young manager, yes of course we’re missing him.

Doesn’t mean we’re over reliant on him, but any team misses a player who was at that point in great form.

Isn’t part of the issue that we’ve not built a squad where we have a direct replacement for him, in terms of profile, and we also haven’t adapted tactically to not having him up front.

Well, I think we went into the season with two 'number 9s', and we only play with one at a time. We've then got a few others that play off the number 9 and at a stretch can fill in up-front. Unfortunately one of those two 9s has fallen off a cliff in terms of form. The other one has been in top form but is now injured.
To add, we've never had too many options at number 9. You can understand that to an extent, given they're usually the most expensive player in the squad.
That said, we've got some serious work to do in the next few windows on the number 9 front. A decision needs to be made on Ferguson, who's under contract until 2029, and might be trying to force the issue. I think Welbeck might play at this level until 36/37 but, if he does, his minutes will need to be managed. Not sure whether what we've got out on loan (eg Osman, Sima) can: i, play number 9; and ii, make it in the PL.

I think that's right. I imagine the club hoped that Evan could develop to fill the role to some extent, but that seems to have stalled after his injury.

Didn't think Pedro was poor in terms of effort, quite the opposite actually but he was in the wrong place most of the game and as the centre forward never in the box where he should have been.

At times Pedro was at left back.... He was rarely in the box. The team needed some one in the box . Generally a game of not shooting early enough and waiting and then too many players back defending

We looked so much more solid with Wieffier and Baleba, even more so considering WH are physical. IMO we win that game if Mats stays on. That just about sums our season up so far.

The other major positive for me is that was the sharpest Evan has looked in 18 months IMO. He'd have an assist if Ayari could finish and would have got the winner if the WH defender hadn't got a toenail on that cross. I'd start him on Friday instead of Rutter, with Pedro or Ensico at 10.
