[Albion] West Ham United vs Brighton & Hove Albion *** Official Match Thread ***

Gruda did nothing
Indeed - Adingra would have been pelted putting in such a display of so much possession but doing zero with it. I’m not getting vexed by that, totally he is a young player with a big development curve ahead of him. But he’s not quite ready to win games like today’s and that’s on Fab for picking him

Shit save
Not Bart’s best moment but the goal was JP’s fault. NSC would have been in uproar right now if it had been Dunk. Good job it was a fans favourite eh. And you have to overlook a very bad second half given his head nearly got caved in

JPVH keeps doing that it’s infuriating he’s not a midfielder.
I have no idea why he was so high up at that moment.

I feel this is actually kind of disrespectful of the teams around us tbh. There are plenty of teams in this league that are just as good as us right now and frankly the players we have aren’t looking significantly more talented than anyone else’s.

We really aren’t all that at the moment.
Opinions! You have yours and I have mine.

I think some of this is a bit of a legacy of what they used to watch. They also keep talking about our high possession football - overlooking the fact that we don't have this anymore to the degree we did (53% average this season, 61% last two seasons).
Spot on. The blurb form many of these commentators who don’t watch Brighton regularly tends to be the very definition of a lagging indicator. They are effectively talking about the Potter/De Zerbi possession beast, not the harder to define style we have now currently. Of course we were very good in possession in the last 20 minutes, but a poor West Ham team had cowardly accepted a point at home

I'd say all of our wingers have underperformed so far this season. Makes me wonder if it's the system and how they're being told to play rather than the players themselves.

Maybe although when you sign a £40m player you expect something more right? For £40m Rutter isn’t doing a lot or really showing any potential.
I agree. Georginho is a MUCH better option.

Talk about misreading someone’s post and jumping at the opportunity to make a poorly targeted dig 😂

I wasn’t there today - never said I was and if you had read any of the previous posts on this thread before deciding to have a mini rant about me being a bad fan for leaving early - you would have realised that.

I even thanked other posters for the stream links I was sent in the post you quoted ffs.

Edit - As for the rest of your post, suffice to say, unlike yourself who apparently leaves games early if we have all but lost, I have NEVER left an away game early for whatever reason nor any home game bar one in my life and that was due to illness.

I ALWAYS stay to the end and cheer the team whatever the result.

Today I just couldn’t be arsed watching the stream until the predictable end and, wanting to avoid all the inevitable bed wetting threads/posts again if we drew or lost, decided to sign off the thread before the end of the match.

Apology accepted 👍
Mmmkay.

Weird thread. If ferguson didn’t do an air shot infront of goal, or ayari actually blasted with power either of these shots in then this has a different outlook, all of which are not the managers fault.

Lots of change over summer and new manager. A balancing of the squad in jan is needed still.

Gomez in for moder.
Loan out Ferguson and minteh (although looks like enciso off on loan)
Get march back
Sign a centre back
Sell Webster

Then gel squad for next season, might lose Verbruggen which is no loss and Pedro which would involve a big replacement.

Atmosphere at the ground was awful from both sets of fans.

Terrible game.
Two teams with no confidence.

Should have won it, but at least we didn't lose it.

Roll on Friday

There was a moment in the first half, whem Bowen went down clutching his foot and knocked the ball out with his knees.

From a million miles away it didn't liok like a Brighton player was anywhere near him.
Pretty sure the ref gave a freekick to them after a bit of a stoppage.

Watching the highlights this morning, it was clear that there was no contact.

Am I right in thinking a freekick was given?
If so that was one of Jones's worst decisions ever.

And that's a big list.

Also, how did Mitoma manage to hit the post despite having an empty net to aim for? I understand that perhaps he didn’t expect the ball coming to him but as an attacker, you must have a striker’s instinct. We don’t have any confidence at the moment with our forwards.

Let’s be blunt, Mitoma has missed a ton of easy chances this year. For all of his strengths, and he has many, finishing is absolutely not one of them.
