Not in the conversation to be the ‘greatest player over time’ (as the thread title states)?

I’d agree Caicedo is the more rounded and developed DM at this moment in time but no reason Baleba can’t reach or maybe even supersede his level if his current rate of development is anything to go by.
I hope he does. I think he has a way to go to get close to Caicedo personally. I guess my point is that I’m not really sure of his potential level at the moment as we’ve just not seen enough consistently yet to judge. Whereas we have sustained periods of excellence for the other two.

Noticed this in the BBC website today (written by a fan):

Other than Cole Palmer - who evokes Cooke himself with his attacking flair - one of the principal players responsible for this run has been Moises Caicedo. The Ecuador international, whose rambunctious style of play in central midfield has been instrumental in controlling games, can pivot into attack at a moment's notice and effectively shields the defence from conceding even more chances than it already does.

His all-action displays have helped bring out improved performances in the players around him - notably Fernandez and Romeo Lavia - but it is Caicedo himself who has entered world-class status, if you ask pretty much any Chelsea supporter.

Incredible it took Chelsea fans all this time to work out something so obvious

Pointless poll when its glaringly obvious to anyone watching football that Caicedo can be one of the best dmcs of ALL time.

Biss and Baleba are fantastic players, but Caicedo is literally exceptional imho.

But is Baleba still not young enough that he could theoretically become as good as Caicedo? I’m not saying it’s definite that he will, just not impossible.

On a side note Caicedo was brilliant for us and at one point I knew a statistic about our points per game average when Caicedo was in the team and it was very impressive.

I still can’t believe we once fielded a midfield of Caicedo, Bissouma, Gross and Mac Allister. If we ever top that midfield we’ll probably win the league!

Theoretically perhaps but Caicedo is a natural born DMC. Baleba goes into games with a lot of effort and desire, overworking quite a few solutions. To Caicedo it just seems to come naturally to make the best decision in nearly every thinkable situation. To me he is the best defensive midfielder in the world and I think Baleba can get very close but not quite as good.

He’s playing brilliantly now, but no way is he better than Rodri. No chance.
