In the late 80s I used to use The Fitzroy Tavern in Charlotte Street a lot.

There was a big portrait of Dylan Thomas with a little plaque above his 'favourite place to sit' (probably still there). One day when I went in the bloke who played the dim pub landlord in 'Brush Strokes' was sat there.
Nice pub, that one. I sometimes used to go the Champion, another Sam Smiths boozer also in Fitzrovia.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Decades ago I used to go to the White Horse (aka Nellies) in Beverley, East Yorkshire which was a fascinating old pub, still lit by gas with loads of corridors and small rooms.

It has been a Sam Smiths pub since 1976. I looked at its Trip Advisor reviews recently, and amongst the five star raves there were some real stinkers about the staff attitudes and management.
