Got pulled over last night near Southlands hospital for the annual drink drive checks which are often done at this time of the year. No issues at all as I don't partake in either and the police were very friendly, but upon chatting to them they said they had already nicked 8 people for being over the limit for cannabis. The copper I spoke to said this is becoming more common than drink driving as it can last in your system for up to 4 days.

Polite advice to all out there - have a Happy and Peaceful Christmas and don't drink, smoke weed, or drive at all. It's just not worth it.

Doesn't really seem fair to have your life ruined through consuming a natural substance, which should certainly be legal, several days ago and no longer under any of its effects.

Would be interesting to know how enforceable it has been as a law.

But yes, be careful. Two pints can put many people over the limit.

If that's your view then fair enough. I had my sister killed by a driver 3 times the legal limit for cannabis 8 years ago, so I certainly know there ARE consequences. And all he got was 4 years (out in 2). And I now have no sister.

You can buy saliva test kits for cannabis you can also get alcohol breathalyser tests so no excuse if you are over and no, no excuses. Fine you think cannabis should be legal but you have no right to be behind the wheel if you want to use it. Also how do you know you are no longer under any effect? Same with alcohol, just because you feel OK doesn't mean you are.
I have never used drugs, just never interested, if I am driving I will not have any alcohol & if I'm driving the next day I always make sure I leave plenty of time for it to leave my system.
The police have their own test kits & if over the limit you will be prosecuted & serves you right, or anyone else if caught. People die because of moron who think they can do what they want.

Was invited out with friends to see a (shit)Elvis comedy tribute in Hassocks. 4 pints later driver offered me a lift home (less than a mile for them). I was like what? Feck off, no thanks, I'll walk to the station. Was surprised people still did this. Not sure I'll be in contact with them again as they didn't take it well. People are still stupid and think "it doesn't affect me.".

Was that last night? Only I was pulled over at the same spot….with chief constable present ….i’d just been shopping at Tescos…all well handled…lattes are my form of drinking and driving

Regularly get them at work and as is always the case, as long as they don't ban Tea or BBQ Sauce I know I'll be fine.

Never been pulled over for a random check while driving though, always hope I'll be able to be kind and courteous and thank the police for doing it, because it does save lives getting dangerous drivers off the road.

Ironically this was reported on today

A scientist who helped design breathalysers has been banned for drink driving.

Dr Richard Lacey, 70, mounted a roundabout in his car after drinking wine and “a couple of pints” with his lunch.

When police were called to the scene they found that the retired scientist was “wobbly” and breathalysed him, Llandrindod Wells magistrates’ court heard.

Shane Maddocks, prosecuting, said that after police arrived at the roundabout on the A479 near Talgarth in the Brecon Beacons on Nov 23, they found Lacey’s car “damaged, its right wheel was twisted, which had rendered the vehicle immobile”.

Were they parked up just off the road in the nearby doctors surgery Road? I saw a few cars there last night coming back from the gym around 7.15pm.

Shouldn't laugh, however, you might think the good doctor would have had more sense.

Plus, there's an undeniably delicious schadenfreude to this story.

Like a traffic warden getting a parking ticket, a telemarketer receiving an unwanted telephone call or a GP receptionist being told to call back tomorrow at 8 AM.

Are they officially allowed to do random checks nowadays? Not that it made any difference, they could always make something up, and anyone who got caught would be wasting time trying to argue that they shouldn't have been stopped.

I was once stopped randomly and the policeman's excuse was that "there had been a lot of Austin Maestros stolen recently". Come off it. They could have found a more likely excuse, such as "we saw Prince Philip dressed as a lizard man and thought you were going to be abducted to an alien spaceship".
