[News] Dad and stepmum guilty of Sara Sharif murder

Urfan Sharif, 42, will serve at least 40 years in prison and Beinash Batool, 30, a minimum of 33 years.

Sara's uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, was also sentenced to a minimum of 16 years after being found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child.

Mind those slippery shower floors.
Hopefully to never see daylight outside prison again!

Sincerely hope there are some regular and persistent other forms of justice heading their way. Evil ****s.

Child protection services need more funding. Austerity is the problem here.

That said, no safety net can be foolproof. There has always been child abusers and there will always be.

But the state can play a role in reducing the numbers by properly funding and regulating the systems in place.

This shouldn't just be a problem we think about when there's a high profile media story. Abuse is happening all the time.

Blaming austerity I don't buy. If you read this article below there were a number of things which (with limited funding) Surry childrens services had already done and should have done again, numerous opportunities and events. There are countless interventions and instances here, domestic violence, elder children in and out of foster care. Family court documents recorded how Sara said her mother had tried to drown her and burn her with a lighter. Why on earth was the child not removed then into foster care again???

Read this and tell me why there was no one decent human being in all these contacts who couldn't realise this family and this man were evil?

I don’t often find news stories genuinely heart breaking, this is up there as one of the most heart breaking for me. That poor poor child

Completely breaks my heart and infuriates me in equal measure. Those people working in childrens services and the police have hard jobs in a broken system, but every one of them failed her as they did have things available to them to do even with limited resource. Each time they walked away and left her there, asked the school to monitor her and then not do anything when she was pulled out....they saw the marks and the evidence, they read it in court.... It boils my blood...

How can you honestly do your job day to day, even in a broken system with that many warning signs?

Capital punishment isn't good enough for these evil fuckers. They need to suffer and badly, I hope the three get beaten daily.

A friend of our kid was expelled and is now being home schooled. The family have a bully dog and ten kids. Our kid has defriended due to her bizarre behaviour. Far too easy to allow home schooling. These murdering ****s home schooled Sara so they could hide the injuries. This has to stop.

Very relieved the government have acted. Where a kid is subject to a child protection investigation or under a child protection plan, the parents won’t have the automatic right to ‘home school’.

But it will still require vigilance, professionals such as teachers spotting the warning signs, acting.

There was an article on the BBC today detailing that the government is bringing in a monitoring scheme where all home schooled children have to be registered and their education tracked. Of course resources to do this might be the big question.

If anyone is worried they need to shout from the hilltops and follow it through. I have and it was one of my close family (very close!) I will not stand by and allow it.
