Is this why he’s not even on the bench? Done deal?
On Sunday I was surprised he wasn't in the starting line up nor the bench, yet I'd not seen any mention of him being injured. I suspect it may well be a case of done deal.
Not the case, he was injured in the Southampton game and hasn't recovered.

I was only thinking today just how lightweight we really are up top when you think that Danny Welbeck is out top scorer… a great player who has never ever been a prolific score throughout his long career. Can’t believe he is improving at this age in all seriousness? He is simply what he is and nobody else in our team can keep up with him goals wise this season

Can’t imagine for one second that his time out for injuries will be any different this year or next year than it has been in recent years so …. If this is true it’s a classic Man Utd decision. Poor.
There are still 13 teams in the league who have scored less than Albion though.

Think they were looking at him over the summer but it didn't happen. Can't see them going through with it now, espcailly as he isn't 100% fit and we don't like selling in January.

Thank you for sharing, really interesting article.

This bit stands out for me "A factor in Welbeck’s form is that 2024 is the first calendar year since 2015 in which he has not missed a single game because of injury."

I now hold the writer of this article, James Gheerbrandt entirely responsible for him getting injured and our form dropping off a cliff.

I am willing to take a small % of responsibility as well as I put him in my fantasy team a few weeks back and he's been injured ever since.

Have just heard from a well-connected source who has given me previous correct ITK’s that Welbeck is wanted by Manchester United in January and reckons he’s off. Don’t shoot the messenger.
"He gives a similar answer regarding recent speculation about a return to United. “It’s speculation and there’s always that link for me because I’ve been at the club. As I said, I’m just focusing on what I can control myself and all the other stuff is pretty irrelevant.”

Pretty standard answer.

Would superstar team Manchester United really want an aging striker?
Unfortunately I think the answer to this is probably yes. They have a couple of young strikers with one of them likely to go out on loan ( Zirkzee). So an experienced striker to aid rotation would be useful to their squad. This may all be dependent on them being able to offload Rashford and I’m not sure anyone would pay for him and his wages.
Would Welbeck want to go back to his home town club…? Of course he would.

Maybe a January swap with Michael Owen to finally land 'The Man At The Grand' once and for all?
