Another fun subject... Arguably we're the worst in the PL in this category now.

Getting annoyed by it though. Our guys throw themselves to the ground over nothing, the sturdy opponent takes the ball and our lad spends time and energy bemoaning that the ref didn't buy his antics.

"Dark arts", some call it. "Pathetic" is more suitable though. And we gain very little from it.

Refs seem to have noticed too and give us hardly anything now, so yeah just stop it.
Yup. When they go through the games with their supervisors, they'll notice it. They're not supposed to make decisions based on that, but if they've seen Joao Pedro throw himself to get ground for no reason a dozen times, then its just human nature to suspect he'll do it again.

Possible its even brought up in some analyst meetings. "For reasons they probably don't understand themselves, Brighton often look for a set piece to waste."

I wouldnt mind but we are phenomenally shit at it.

Lampteys primary school kid jumping into the pool efforts are the worst. Pedro is bad as well.

It's unforgiveable when they are entering the area and boring down on goal. They did it loads yesterday. Look down at the ball, become overwhelmed by number of options, panic, fall over.

There's doubtless EPL match official Whatsapp groups where they discuss who the con artist culprits are amongst themselves. No way do they go into games as wide-eyed innocents
Of course not. And thats the right approach imho.

I mean, technically speaking they shouldn't think of it, but they're going to do a better job this way than going into every game like a newborn baby.

Most effective way for the opposition to win a corner against us is to concede a direct free kick just outside their own penalty box.

Every team does it. We're no worse than any other team and we only do it when there is actual contact, however light. Plenty of players do it when there's no contact at all and don't get carded, which they should be every time.

It's shit and I hate it.

It comes across that on some level we've worked out that being the nicest, most callow team in the division is going to cost us, but we've no real idea what to do about it.

Well, it worked to a point. Last season Joao Pedro was getting penalties for existing in the same hemisphere as the leg of a defender, turning a somewhat goal shy/average goal scoring attacking midfielder to a top scorer, with all that comes with it. After a while he started playing around winning penalties and now he have to reprogram, because he's not a rookie no one knows about. His also WAY to good to adopt the playing style of Aaron Connolly.

“We’re no worse than anyone else” is never a convincing argument IMO. Here’s a radical thought — why don’t we try actually being better than the others?

If a player continued to battle for the ball instead of opting for the dive-and-hope strategy, we might actually create more chances and score more goals.

It's a blight on the game and it's embarrassing when we do it - especially as we are so bloody awful at it. Many times we were shouting at the players to stay on their feet yesterday. I've said this for years but a panel should review every game, retrospectively book any player for diving (red cards for multiple infractions) and a red card for anyone feigning a head injury (eg Walker & Cucurella yesterday). It would soon cut it out.

I agree with the OP’s sentiment about diving which annoys me intensely…..I think it’s safe to say Pedro….Enciso are regulars….and I think yesterday we saw Baleba and Minteh….but we aren’t in the same class as Fulham …and I could probably name a few others.

wish some of these so called expert pundits would call it out …you get the commentator going oh that player looks hurt as he clutches his shin, when the action replay clearly shows the opposing players foot was nowhere near it.

its not clever …its not my idea of entertainment
