I like Igor. I've always thought he was decent and stood up for him when he was getting slagged off a couple of months ago for 2 or 3 mistaked. Now Dunk is the scapegoat and people are screaming for Dunk to be cast aside and Igor reinstated.
Dunk has not been at his best since he came back in the team but he hasn't become rubbish any more than Igor was rubbish before he became Maldini. Van Hecke, also, hasn't suddenly become rubbish because he is forced to partner Dunk. There's a whole heap of hysteria on this board, no need to ask why.
Dunk's positional play and distribution are better than Igor's. Igor carries the ball better but has a Websteresque tendency to carry it into trouble. Igor is, probably, stronger in the physical duels. Both can do a job.
I don't want to see a back 3 of Dunk, Igor and Van Hecke though. It doesn't seem to work.

Ok, so its merely a coincidence that the two longest serving players also happen to be local lads? Isn't it a weird "coincedence" that we currently have two local lads with 10+ years at the club whereas none of the 100s of foreign signings done in that time has stayed for more than... Gross years. But someone like me, who does not believe Tony operates based on "coincidence", it seems like the club has been more keen on retaining local lads than the others who come and go.
Yes, it's a coincidence.

But that's not really anything to do with the basis of your initial argument - that they shouldn't receive any form of criticism because they are "local lads" - how they've become "local lads" is not relevant to your initial argument.......

Han Solo, maybe a more considered reply is.

I agree with some of your points. Even if Lewis is struggling, more than we've ever seen, he still offers a lot. There are games we need his physicality, there are games we need his leadership. His long passing has dropped off, but 'i see no reason, why this isn't to do with loss of form and fewer effective runs in behind. If he isn't there we miss him

Igor I think is a bit better than you credit him for. He was bad last season, but that was in and out and mostly at full back. He had a howler at Leicester, but when he had a run in the side on the left side of a 2, he really started to show what he was worth. That left sided option in that position really can get us moving up the field quick. I see why RDZ liked Colwill there. Igor can give us similar impetus

In my view, which 2 out of the 3 centre backs play is a marginal call. JPVH has been piss poor for a few weeks. I've seen comments blaming Dunk for this as well which I find bemusing. I guess JP has credit in the bank from a very good start to the season.

You're right to make the general point that the some of the comments on Dunk smack of a kind of, in vogue hysteria.

The way I see it, our 3 centre backs are all very close together in what they can currently offer. I would have no issue with whoever FH decides to leave out next weekend. I don't want him to shoehorn all 3 in though
I agree with this and have posted similar.

No, its not the basis.

You and several other - most, as it seems - don't understand the difference between giving criticism and spending the day chasing someone with a pitchfork.

Criticism is fine. Even great. "Go and retire, I don't want to f***ing see you in our club anymore!!!" isn't. Its a disgrace.

No, I come to North Stand Chat to click the ads and find out how Dave, 53, from Eastbourne scored in Wordle yesterday. I'm firmly against online argumentation and discussion just like other hundred of other peeps showing up at this online internet discussion board all day every day.

...or not. You're spot on about that.

When I woke up this morning and saw half of the online Brighton people scapegoating Lewis Dunk for the shit performance of every player last night, I felt "hmm, well, they are arguing that the club would be better of binning our captain and legend".

And this made me think "hmm, maybe if the people slagging off every local player f***ed off it would be a lot better for the club than if Dunk did". And now I'm expressing that, just like the fuckwits express their shit. If those fuckwits feel bad about me saying the club would be better off without them, too bad. If they feel that way maybe they shouldn't be doing it to Dunk.
I'm not arguing your points, I agree with most of it. It's the antagonism and contempt that your post was dripping with.

Maybe it's my own sensibilities, but getting dragged down into arguments against faceless profiles is so draining. You'll never convince anyone they're wrong by calling them stupid.

In reality, we've just been deservedly beaten by our rivals, the board has spiralled and Dunk's poor performance was a focal point for that. He'll soon pick up form and be the hero again, just as Webster did at the end of the season, and Igor just a few games ago. Football fans are emotional creatures.

Well, I agree with yours as well.

I'm a little different though, I do like arguing about this and that with faceless people. Maybe because I gave up on the "convince people" ages ago and see it as the act of "sowing seeds of thoughts" that people may or may not, conciously or subconciously, carry with them and develop on their own and maybe, just maybe, one or two persons will be a little less martial artsy with their pitchfork next time.

I do realise its difficult when emotions are involved but its just so damaging scapegoating players. We're actively making our captain feel more insecure and inconfident and its just... not good, potentially pretty bad.

I would just try and rationalise it that the vast majority of football fans (myself included) are no more able to calmly and rationally analyse a defeat to any opponent during or shortly after a game, than they would be able to calmly analyse a hostage situation involving their family.

The match day threads on nsc may represent Albion fans to you, but Dunky and all are still getting good support in the stadium. Many in the north stand stayed to clap the team off. Can you imagine Wolves or Everton fans doing that?

And mate, think through the, for one person has to be good, another must be bad thing. Igor isn't shit. RDZ had fantastic qualities. To say so doesn't in itself belittle Potter or Dunk. Less aggression, more nuance would get your points through better
