Don’t watch it myself but I’ve heard the winner was one of the finalists

My wife was watching and I paid no attention as I was on my Ipad but without seeing a single dance I knew, as I had watched intermittently during the competition, and told her who the winner would be. I very much doubt that the best dancer won though.

The screaming and forced excitement would be more at place in a kid’s programme.

And without even watching the Christmas Special I know that the racing driver will win

It’s no longer a dance competition, more of a popularity contest. If it were purely dance, Tasha would have won it easily. Even one of the judges, Anton, said she was the best celebrity dancer he’d seen in 20 years of the show.

This. And for that reason I really don't think it's worth watching any more.

Didn't realise until today that the winner's teacher/
partner lives in Hurstpierpoint 🤗.

She is a dance teacher so that’s unsurprising. Dancers who are already trained rarely win, hence Abby Clancy beat Denise Van Outen.

Chris had never danced in his life, is totally blind, so couldn’t watch videos to learn the moves, nor even see the dimensions of the dance floor.
Yes, he is popular, but that’s because the public that voted for him recognised his journey, overcoming his disability and making a good job of it.

I didn’t know that about Tasha. And I have no beef with Chris winning it, although admittedly the tone of my post did make it seem that way. Absolutely astonishing what he achieved.

Unlike the Masterchef thread, you could have posted the winner’s name in the title, because I wouldn’t have known who it was

I read he got 66% of the vote despite Alan Sugar’s spiteful comment.

It’s flawed in several ways. Some people, especially those who’ve been in boy/girl bands or who have come up through stage school, are already accomplished dancers. These are put up against the Ann Widdicombes and Ballses and Mersons of this world, who are good sports having a bit of a laugh. Then you have the keen amateurs who start off badly and genuinely improve as time goes on. And of course the human interest competitors — the deaf woman, the blind man, the first same-sex couple etc. it’s never really made clear what it takes to win the competition.

I don’t watch it myself but my wife is an addict. She usually accurately predicts the winner very early on as she knows the formula needed.

Despite all that, it gives a lot of pleasure to a lot of people, and it’s quite nice to see some old-fashioned family entertainment still on prime-time terrestrial TV. Long may it continue.

Popularity wins. Sometimes it is an excellent dancer, sometimes it’s the person who discovers they can dance, previously having no idea (Matt Dawson rugby player) and sometimes, it is the most popular for lots of reasons.
As you say, old fashioned Saturday night entertainment.

I do keep the volume control in my hand as I get fed up with the squealing by some people.

Isn’t it a bit past it’s sell by date now? Not sure what the criteria is for winning. Lowest starting point? Overcoming greatest disability? Best dancer? Most popular person? …… but then I don’t watch it 🤣🤣🤣

It’s obviously not past it’s sell by date. I think it’s the highest audience numbers of the year, as a series.

It used to be bigger than X Factor, ITV would give their eye teeth to get Strictly.

I don’t watch it ,btw, but, Mrs LLF loves it.

The amount of our fans that leave Saturday afternoon 3.00 kick offs early (on the rare occasion we have one)to rush home to see it, just proves how popular it is.😂😂
