And without even watching the Christmas Special I know that the racing driver will winMy wife was watching and I paid no attention as I was on my Ipad but without seeing a single dance I knew, as I had watched intermittently during the competition, and told her who the winner would be. I very much doubt that the best dancer won though
Pray tell, who is that? And without even watching the Christmas Special I know that the racing driver will win
It’s no longer a dance competition, more of a popularity contest. If it were purely dance, Tasha would have won it easily. Even one of the judges, Anton, said she was the best celebrity dancer he’d seen in 20 years of the show.I very much doubt that the best dancer won though.
Sounds similar to the crowds at women’s football matchesThe screaming and forced excitement would be more at place in a kid’s programme.
This. And for that reason I really don't think it's worth watching any more. It’s no longer a dance competition, more of a popularity contest. If it were purely dance, Tasha would have won it easily. She is a dance teacher so that’s unsurprising. Dancers who are already trained rarely win, hence Abby Clancy beat Denise Van Outen. It’s no longer a dance competition, more of a popularity contest. I didn’t know that about Tasha. And I have no beef with Chris winning it, although admittedly the tone of my post did make it seem that way. Absolutely astonishing what he achieved. She is a dance teacher so that’s unsurprising. Dancers who are already trained rarely win, hence Abby Clancy beat Denise Van Outen.
Chris had never danced in his life, is totally blind, so couldn’t watch videos to learn the moves, nor even see the dimensions of the dance floor.
Yes, he is popular, but that’s because the public that voted for him recognised his journey, overcoming his disability and making a good job of it.
I read he got 66% of the vote despite Alan Sugar’s spiteful comment.I didn’t know that about Tasha. And I have no beef with Chris winning it, although admittedly the tone of my post did make it seem that way. Absolutely astonishing what he achieved.
Popularity wins. Sometimes it is an excellent dancer, sometimes it’s the person who discovers they can dance, previously having no idea (Matt Dawson rugby player) and sometimes, it is the most popular for lots of reasons. It’s flawed in several ways. Some people, especially those who’ve been in boy/girl bands or who have come up through stage school, are already accomplished dancers. These are put up against the Ann Widdicombes and Ballses and Mersons of this world, who are good sports having a bit of a laugh. Then you have the keen amateurs who start off badly and genuinely improve as time goes on. And of course the human interest competitors — the deaf woman, the blind man, the first same-sex couple etc. it’s never really made clear what it takes to win the competition.
I don’t watch it myself but my wife is an addict. She usually accurately predicts the winner very early on as she knows the formula needed.
Despite all that, it gives a lot of pleasure to a lot of people, and it’s quite nice to see some old-fashioned family entertainment still on prime-time terrestrial TV. Long may it continue.
Isn’t it a bit past it’s sell by date now? Not sure what the criteria is for winning. Lowest starting point? Overcoming greatest disability? Best dancer? Most popular person? …… but then I don’t watch it
