Yeah, it’s definitely the No. 10 position where we’ve been short of numbers.
I am playing him deeper next to Baleba!!

I thought that was one of his positions?

Based upon postings in regard to other foreign signings by @Joey Jo Jo Jr. Shabadoo, Albion won't be able to apply for Gomez' work permit until he has signed his Albion contract (which is presumably what he is here to do now). And he may need to leave the country and re-enter once he has that work permit.

Given the way Albion operate, there is no way they will allow Gomez to start work (ie training etc) until all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed.

(Bobby Zamora is a UK citizen so it is a completely different scenario - I'm sure Albion don't want to fall foul of the nation's employment regulations).

Once Gomez has signed his contract we can apply for his work permit. Although the club say he’ll officially join on January 1st, that is when his player registration will transfer. I don’t believe there would be anything stopping him training once the contract is signed and the work permit sorted he just can’t play for us until January.

It’s no different to waiting for international clearance when we sign an overseas player within a transfer window, there may well be a day or two that they are training while we are waiting for the registration to be completed. In this case hopefully it’s a week or two (and we’ll have already submitted the paperwork to the American FA well before Jan 1st for his international clearance to come through).

I think it is, who knows? But then where do O’Riley, Weiffer, Hinshelwood, Milner or Ayari play?

I’m not convinced our squad is entirely balanced atm.

I would imagine he can't do that until his work permit has been obtained. Not sure of the exact steps to make that happen - I'm sure someone on here will fill in that detail.
What if his not "training with the club" but is instead "having a bit of a kick around with his new mates?"

Wink, wink

First sign was for Brighton, next sign was for Heathrow, and then we saw a plane landing. Does this mean he's leaving?
If he’s comparing the weather between Miami and Brighton at the moment I imagine he’s already on his way home.

What’s that Diego, how long will this rain last for? Oh only till about mid April if we are lucky.

Hurricane season in Brighton is much shorter though.

It appears that the club are not too sure where they have signed Diego from. This is from their article posted on the club website:

Diego Gomez joins Albion on 1 January from Aston Villa.
Fabian Hurzeler expects new signing Diego Gomez to hit the ground running when he officially joins the club on 1 January.
The Paraguay international is signing from MLS club Inter Milan and Hurzeler believes he has the attributes to succeed in English football.

So did we sign him from Villa or Inter Milan?
