Six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Belichick is finalizing a deal to become the new head coach at North Carolina, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Lot of rumours about this over last week, looks like it's finally happening. Don't know how he'll work with college kids but with NIL, transfer portal and other stuff NCAA is as close to NFL as it gets these days business wise. No doubt there are a lot of kids who will want to play for him.

Talking about college footbal here is the playoff bracket. Is anyone here following CFB?

Re college, a little, not as much as I did when Louisiana were the all conquering team. I would say arguably the best ever….

Burrow, Chase, Etienne, Jefferson……

As I live in the States all the college games are available to watch from literally 10am to 10pm every Saturday during the season so whilst I wouldn't say I follow it as such, I'll typically stick on a game or two at some point most weekends.

ASU have done incredibly well considering they were projected to finish bottom of the Big 12 Conference this season.

Used to follow college ball a lot more than now, but still enjoy sitting down to watch a game on a Saturday when I can.

Tomorrow is the annual Army v Navy game - and while not the prettiest football games ever, they always delivers in atmosphere and tradition. Proper old school feel about it. Always look forward to their uniform unveiling for these game too, which pay tribute to their different divisions each year. Hopefully SKY will be showing it....

Yeah, I'd seen it in the Guardian yesterday:

Seems to be quite rare. People going back to college football after a spell in the NFL is quite common, but just going from the NFL to college doesn't happen apparently.

I've started paying more attention to the college game this year as the Sky NFL channel are showing a lot of games. It's great!

Maybe Belichicks girlfriend is a student at UNC? 🤣

College football is a lot more fun than the NFL imo. The tradition with marching bands etc, the huge crowds of old alum & current students etc, just creates a unique atmosphere. Not a fan of the fights surrounding flag planting lately though...
My mate used to live in Detroit in the 90s when Barry Sanders was playing, and went to the Lions games regularly (still a fan after 30 years, and is FINALLY happy with them!), but also used to go to the Michigan games with friends, with over 100k fans crammed in. He also went to an Army Navy game once. Said hes never known atmospheres like those college games....gave him chills, and not just coz it was cold!

Caught the last quarter of 49ers Rams this morning. Would have helped Seattle for the Whiners to have won, but they were piss poor from the part I saw, giving LA a comfortable W. Grrr.

Yeah, I've loved the games on Sky. I didn't realise how big the bands were, and sometimes the away team bring theirs as well! The crowds of course are phenomenal. I read somewhere that out of the ten biggest sports stadia in the world, seven of them were built for American college football!

Whole different level to the NFL, when its the bigger colleges!
For years, the pro leagues (when in their infancy) really struggled for fans / support, as the college game was so big.
Would love to get to a big game in the US just once...

Burrow, Chase, Etienne, Jefferson……

Travis Etienne played for Clemson, you've probably meant Clyde Edwards-Helaire whose NFL career has been underwhelming so far tbf despite winning two SB titles with the Chiefs.

But clearly that LSU team was stacked on both sides. Ofc most attention goes to their record breaking offense but on defense they also had players like Queen, Stingley, Fulton, Delpit,...

Lot of very talented rosters like 2021-22 Georgia, 2018 Clemson (Lawrence, Etienne) and Alabama in several seasons (when it comes to offensive talent mostly in 2019-20 when they had likes of Tua, Mac Jones, Jeudy, Ruggs, D.Smith, Waddle, N. Harris,... - insane depth) but hard to argue against 2019 LSU team especially considering how all of their stars transitioned to the NFL. Jefferson and Chase are top 5 WRs in the league (JJ probably #1 for many people) and Burrow when healthy a top 5 QB.

Yeah, especially not at his age and after spending almost half a century in the NFL.

Most NFL coaches still consider going to college as a step back in their careers. Obviously for Belichick who has nothing more to prove to anyone this will be just a new challenge. I would prefer if he would get another job in the NFL and see if he can win without Brady. I know some people think he can't but I believe he could with a better QB. No coach can win with Mac Jones but tbf BB alone drafted him. OTOH that whole 2021 QB class (Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields) outside of Trevor Lawrence is bad so can't really blame him too much.

BTW, his dad was an assistant coach at UNC in fifties but Bill was only 1 or 2 years old at that time so probably too young to remember but maybe he still feels some kind of connection to that school. Or maybe he just likes their students. His current GF should probably be a bit worried.

Been in Vegas a few days ahead of watching us v the Falcons on Monday night. Did the Allegiant Stadium Tour yesterday and it was everything I could have hoped for and more. Truly reaffirmed why the Raiders are my team (no matter how bad we've been in most of my time as a fan) and regardless of the result, this trip has been worth flying out for.

Off to the Black Hole's pre-game party event tonight at the Mandalay and buzzing for all the proper tailgating to come on Monday.

So ..... no chance of them moving back to Oakland any time soon then? (I saw them there as my wife supports them and the 49-ers. The stadium was positively archaic compared to that though)

I wish one could make a 'Jealous' response to a post, but no, it looks fantastic. Glad you're enjoying yourself.

Zero chance. As much as it's a stadium often filled by away fans (because appeal of going to Vegas, how we've been playing and the big-resale market), it's here for the long haul. Especially when Oakland has lost all it's sports teams with the Golden State Warriors moved to the other side of the Bay, plus A's are also moving to Vegas.

Thanks you! It's definitely the most spectacular stadium I've ever been to. The thought and effort gone into all areas of the place is stunning, and the truly high roller seating options like the Wynn Nightclub at the North endzone are quite the sight! If anyone ends up in Vegas for whatever reason even when there's no game on, doing the tour of it is an absolute must!

Yeah, the Raiders and A's shared the stadium as you probably know. (I didn't know the A's were also moving to Vegas). I seriously doubt I shall ever go to Vegas again, and as far as the stadium is concerned I went too early. We went on a coach trip to the Grand Canyon and the guide pointed out where it was going to be, but it was just a hole in the ground at that time.

Hate to break it to you, but that’s kind of the whole point of the Grand Canyon.

Similar, the structure was just going up when we were there.

Looks amazing, as a Broncos fan it is a shame it is wasted on the Silver & Black clowns!

Hope you have a great trip and enjoy the game on Monday night.
