I have a spine that has shown sign of degeneration and can cause a cumbersome frame and some rather awful pain on occasions, but the last week has been a real pain for other reasons.

Left side top of buttock/waist radiating down the side of the leg to the upper thigh. A pain that is constantly there and makes me whine a lot. Anything that involves left leg movement triggers it and it does rather get me down a bit. Getting out of bed is a sequenced movement. Getting up from a chair. Strangely, although I feel it, I can walk- although sometimes at 45 degrees.

Does anyone experience similar and what do they do about it ?

*Funny answers are allowed as long as folk can make a genuine attempt to engage*

Yes, it is a pain in the arse and a real bummer.

My wife has similar and it has changed her ability to do simple things dramatically. Cortisone injections and surgery over the years has only given short term relief. You have my sympathy as it can, and in her case has, cause life changing shit

I have had something similar with my left leg for a couple of years. It used to get me down, but I have learnt to take it in my stride now.

Sympathise with you. I've had back problems for 30 years and it's not nice. Perfectly mobile but nerve damage and it can radiate down left leg to behind the knee. Had MRI (which confirmed nerve damage) and the electric muscle test thingy and just have to live with it. Co codamol helps when I need it but that also causes some butt problems!

Oh that sounds awful. Hope you can get it sorted or get pain management sorted. Good luck

Sounds like sciatica to me too.

I seem to get a couple of flare-ups a year, and have to do some physio prescribed exercises, which to be fair usually start working within about 48-72 hours, and after a fortnight persuade it to clear off for another six months.

The reason for the flare-ups is of course that I’ve stopped doing the physio prescribed exercises.

I sympathise re your back pain. I have Spinal Stenosis which limits my mobility quite considerably. Standing and walking is painful.
Although it is not pleasant, I have found that a regular regime of walking can help the pain, but I have to say that I do tend to ‘talk the talk’ rather than ‘walk the walk’ quite literally. It may help in your case, and for me, the distance doesn’t have to be that far, it is the regularity of walking rather than the distance, which can always be gradually built up. My New Year resolution is to get back into it. I have also heard that Pilates may also help and it may be worth giving it a go and improving your core strength.
Good luck.👍

If it's nerve pain, then amitriptyline will be far more effective than the usual painkillers. Worked well on a neck issue I had a couple of times.

Anything else is half measures.
Diazepam helps. I ended on them for 2 years and they were brilliant for sleeping. Came off them easily enough but they were dodgy ones 😂
I have problems with my back and a condition called spina bifada occulta. many people have it but don’t get pain. I do. A lot.
So my sympathies big time to the thread starter.

I had sciatica after I 'slipped' a disc / disk / disque. Plenty of stretching exercises and practicing good back health sorted it. I did have a very painful injection but I don't think it helped really. Good luck.
